  3. I hope NOT... I enjoyed Detroit Jazz Festival more than Chicago one because they have three "not-too-big" stages and give me more choices. The concert stage at Chicago is way too big for me. I also liked lineup at Detroit better last year. In retrospect, I wish I had gone to Chicago last year just to see Elvin Jones. I also saw that show with Waldron and Lake in Chicago two years ago. It's sad that I have to wonder how long he or she lives everytime I think about which conert to see.
  4. I like this one, purchased in a HatHut binge I gave me a few months ago.... Lee Konitz - Don Friedman - Attila Zoller: "Thingin" Check Zollar out on this very fine disc, with OP, Jimmy Pratt, and Hans Koller: ubu That's a very good album. One of my favorite discs
  5. Now I live in Indianapolis, I will probably go to Indy Jazz Festival again. (I say "probably" because this year's lineup isn't that great.) Then, I will go to either Detroit or Chicago over the Labor Day Weekend. I would like to go back to Iowa City Jazz Festival again, but I don't know if I can make it this year.
  6. Oh, Missouri lost another jazz festival a couple years ago. Capital City Jazz Festival in Jefferson City.
  7. I am asking the same question, Rooster. I went what turned out to be the last K.C. Jazz and Blues Fetival. I remember it was a very very hot day, and everyone was staying under the tree. I am glad that I was able to meet late Big John Patton that day, though.
  8. I haven't heard what EKE has recommended, but I can also recommend one of his earliest recordings called "Swinging Macedonia" (Enja).
  9. Why has no one mentioned Dusko Goykovich, yet? He is a very popular Eastern European trumpet player in Japan. I think he is way underrated in the States. I can highly recommend his Enja albums.

    Elvin is dead

Rest in Peace, Elvin. I wish I had seen his performance. I should have been to Chicago Jazz Festival last year, instead of Detroit...
  11. I second that. Everytime I listen to this album, I turn up the volume. It's probably the only CD that makes me do that. By far, it is my favorite Blakey album!
  12. Damn it, go open that Thad Jones set!!! I know, I know. I just have too many single CDs that I want to listen before box sets. I will get to those sets eventually.
  13. It's too late, Tom. She seemed upset when I told her about rescheducling the wedding for Mosaic sets. But as soon as I told her that you said it, she started laughing. She remembers you as a very funny guy.
  14. Tom, I am sure she will But honestly, she doesn't really want me to buy box sets because I rarely listen to them. I haven't even opened Thad Jones, Curtis Fuller, Blue Mitchell sets I bought long time ago. Plus, I have way too many single CDs that I haven't listened. I am sure I will listen to those sets eventually (Maybe when I retire in 35 years ) I kind of told her that I wanted the Stitt set for my upcoming birthday, but now I better tell her about two Vee Jay sets, instead.
  15. Wow, those Vee Jay sets are already in "Last Chance"... They were still in "Running Low" a few days ago (even though the May catalog said they were in "Last Chance"). Too many Mosaic box sets have/will become OOP this year. I bought Blue Mithchell, then T.K.M. Now I have to pick up two Vee Jay sets... I am supposed to save money for my wedding, but I guess I will have to buy those two sets soon.
  16. I saw Barbara Dennerlein in Jefferson City, Missouri a few years ago. She is very good looking, and she can play! She also jammed with Gloria Coleman and Amina Claudine Myers while she was there. It was amzing to see three B-3ers playing at the same time.
  17. rachel, I just saw his group last summer, so I think I will pass this time. It should be a good show, though.
  18. I saw that eBay auction, too. I just can't believe some people would pay that much money for a single CD.
  19. I have been to the IC Jazz Festival last two years. I really like this festival. It's not too big, and it's got a very nice atomosphere. I don't think I can make it there this year, but I can recommend the festival to anyone.
  20. I have to agree with montg here. I am pretty disappointed by this year's lineup. I guess I had a big disappointment because of my high expectation. I live 5 minutes from the festival site, but I may not even go to the festival this year except for Brad Meldau and Jimmy Coe Tribute. I'd rather go see F1 U.S. Grandprix.
  21. I wish I had read this post yesterday. Well, I am not sure I could have made the show even if I knew. Hope you enjoyed this show, ghost.
  22. How about any good used CD stores near the Duke campus?
  23. Impossible, Thank you for the info. Unfortunately, I can't make both shows... I am arriving there on Saturday and leaving on next Wednesday. This really sucks. I would have really loved to see Joe Lovano and Kenny Barron.
