  1. I thought about listing in the Pay-It-Forward thread since I got the disc for kindness of some board member. But I didn't want to start offering CD-Rs in that thread.
  2. I know there is a policy for CD-R trading... I hope I am not violating it. A good friend of mine on this board sent me a CD-R copy of "The Miles Davis/Tadd Dameron Quintet in Paris Festival International de Jazz (May, 1949)" without knowing that I already have a Japanese issue of this CD. So, I would like to give this CD-R copy to someone who wants it (for free, of course). I think the CD-R is a copy of some European issue, but the track list and covers look identical to my Japanese issue. It comes with a copy of front and back covers, so it looks very nice for CD-R.
  3. I LOVE IT!!! You can go wrong with Jim Hall and Paul Desmond playing together. It's a beautiful album.
  4. I can't believe Universal is trying to pull that kind of BS. I hope you will get your Evans set, Brad.
  5. I think that description and the connotations it brings may be somewhat limited in Stafford's place. True, he will likely never win the avant garde trumpeter of the year award, but I have heard him in some settings where he gets somewhat more adventurous than the "neo-traditionalist" tag would imply. Check him out on the Lester Bowie tribute on Matt Wilson's Arts And Crafts and you might hear what I am trying to articulate. In any event, I think he is a fine trumpeter whose playing I have enjoyed for a while. Someone else recommended the Arts and Craft's cd, I'll give it a spin! Thanks, Mark I saw him a few times before - once with Matt Wilson's "Arts and Crafts". I really like his playing in that band. The CD is pretty good, too. I am planning to go to the same show. I guess I will see you there.
  6. You should get the recent Bobby Watson, Horizon Reassembled. Agreed.
  7. I have a soft spot for Melvin Rhyne since he is local, but I voted for Joey D.
  8. This is a very interesting thread. I should look at my collection to offer something here soon.
  9. Okay, okay!!!....but only if you'll say 'Lollapalooza' 3 times in rapid succession! Lollapalooza..Lollapalooza..Lollapalooza.... Did I say it fast enough???
  10. Hey, I must admit I have a problem with L and R even after more than 10 years in the U.S., but stop making fun of Japanese!!!
  11. That's too bad. That's even sadder... I am sure he wanted to play in front of large audience.
  12. Did you see Sonny Rollins at the first Indy Jazz Festival? I am still kicking myself for not going to see him that time.... Yeah, David Young has great! I wish he would come out and play more often. Yeah, at the Madame Walker Theater... amazing show! First time I ever saw one of the giants/legends. I've seen David Young twice: once at the Hampton Sisters show at the IHS (Nov. 2003, I think) and down here in Bloomington several months later, when he played with David Baker and several musicians/teachers from the IU School of Music. He played a killer version of "In a Sentimental Mood." I wish I had been there...

  14. I didn't know they sell Mosaics... Are they selling any cheaper than buying directly from Mosaic?
  15. I guess I am lucky, too. My wife and I have been going to jazz concerts and festivals together since we started dating several years ago. But he doesn't listen to jazz at home (although I am playing jazz CDs all the time) or buy jazz CDs at all. Speaking of loud drums, I just saw one in the Kenny Garrent quartet last night. The young drummer, named Ronald Brunner, plays so loud (so does everyone else in the group) that I thought he would break the drum sets someday.
  16. He played at the Detroit Jazz Festival last year, but I passed it. I wish I had seen him....
  17. Are you talking about the Charlie Parker Memorial Concert in KC? I am thinking about going.
  18. I think credit cards are charged (regardless of actual availablity at caiman) because Half.com or Amazon.com initiates transcations. I only bought CDs from them once, but when I got a wrong item, they quickly send me a refund.
  19. I have one of these storage racks. I don't know what I will use when my collection exceeds its capacity...
  20. Very sad news... I wish I had seen him live...
  21. I received a wrong item from caiman. I ordered John Coltrane "Ballads" deluxue edition, but received a CD from early 90's... However, they were quick to fix this problem, and I got refund in a reasonable amount of time.
  22. Avishai Cohen?
  23. Did any of those negative comments mention pirate copies? Just curious...
