  1. Hank Mobley 'Dippin' (BN NY USA mono)
  2. Just checked my LP and it looks early Liberty with 'Van Gelder' and no ear, mono copy. 1966 inner sleeve so seems to line up with the above.
  3. I had a few crowns on the lower teeth done several years ago. One of them needed root canal too. A bit uncomfortable for several months but in time it's almost as if they didn't exist.
  4. I've just bought a Packard-Bell unit - nice and compact, also very quiet. An incredible 400 Gbyte storage capacity on it. Jeez - I can remember the days when 64K was a big deal..
  5. I've tried the code for that 'Secret Sessions' quite a few times of late but no success (same story with the other Evans sets). Damn !
  6. Sounds like my vision of paradise - just need the MP3 player with Hank/Morgan/Andrew Hill/McLean/Dexter etc. on it. One can dream....
  7. Thanks for the reminder. The NY USA LP is going up on deck later tonight. This is a Hank album that really grows on you. It is deceptive - it starts off laid-back, almost in MOR vein but noticeably ups the momentum into side 2. I particularly like the last track on side 2 - Ballin' - in which Morgan and Mabern generate incredible drive and ends the album on a real high. This is an LP for which you need to crank the volume up. I think my CD copy is the late-80s McMaster issue so probably won't be replacing it (unless there are some nice snazzy Francis Wolff pictures of the The Mobe in the liner notes). Second also Ghost's comments re: Mobley's superb ballad playing on 'I See Your Face Before Me'.
  8. Booker Ervin 'The In Between' (BN Liberty stereo) John Coltrane 'Blue Train' (BN 47W63rd DG mono no Inc no R)
  9. Also a very good way of acquiring the 'Black Narcissus' session, which doesn't get the plaudits that it deserves. Some nice playing by Joe on that one.
  10. Stylophone - they were all the rage for a while back in the late 60s/early 70s.
  11. I have beautiful memories of going to Scotts, original club 39, Gerrard Street, Soho, I used to go to the all night jazz sessions which started about midnight on a saturday. Ronnie and Tubby played their hearts out. I dont think tubby ever got the credit he deserved. I would recomend to you two vinyls I have aquired reasently, Tubby Hayes, On The Air on Harkit Records also tubby Hayes Introducing Tubbs. He was great on tenor but he was so good on flute,. vibes and anything else he wanted to play. A great talent, sadly missed. The funny thing is I went to the alnight session to see the americans. Thanks for the recs. I do have the 'On The Air' LP on Harkitt, although it has since been withdrawn from sale due to copyright issues.
  12. Mustn't forget UK harpist David Snell - recorded notably with Prince Lasha and Johnny Scott's group.
  13. There's also Johnny Teupen and the albums he recorded for Saba.
  14. That's my recommendation too - it works a treat ! 2 applications deep cleanser for 5 or so revs each followed by same again, super vinyl wash.
  15. Judt about to spin 'The Leon Thomas Anthology' (Soul Brother Records 2LP set)
  16. Similar band to the Curried Jazz LP? Not sure ! The only musicians credited on the sleeve are Krishna Kumar (tabla) and Tara (Tambura) Kapur on sitar. The session includes the indian group with bass and drums plus front line of alto/flute and flugel horn. The alto/flute could be Ray Swinfield. The flugel doesn't sound like Kenny Wheeler - my guess is it's Harry Beckett. Both this and the 'Curried Jazz' LPs are mentioned as 'cash ins' on the Mayer/Harriott fusion albums and were both put out on real cheapo labels (Saga in the case of 'Ragas' and MFP in the case of 'Curried Jazz'). The Saga pressing though sounds truly excellent - and its in heavy vinyl.
  17. Next on deck:- Tony Crombie and His Men 'Atmosphere' (UK Columbia mono). A rare late-50s LP with Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott. Can't believe I picked it up for the grand total of £2.50. The flimsy cover is pretty trashed but the vinyl is bordering near-mint, heavy vinyl sound is superb. I have a spare 1980's reissue sleeve so I'm sorted with this one.
  18. Yikes ! I knew there weren't many - but not that few.
  19. Joe Harriott/John Mayer 'Indo-Jazz Fusions' (Columbia Lansdowne stereo). Picked up today, in near mint.
  20. The Indo-Jazzmen 'Ragas and Reflections' (Saga stereo). Currified version of 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' on side 2. Far out !
  21. Vaughan Williams 'London Symphony', London Philharmonic/Boult (EMI/HMV stereo)
  22. I'm salivating also at the prospect of this one - but I'll wait until the chaps at 'Zwei' have it in stock.
  23. I picked the LP version of the set up at a good deal and it sounds great - up to usual Q-LP standards. Recommended !
  24. I have the first single pocket version of the 'Music Written For Monterey, Not Heard..' 2LP on Charles Mingus Enterprises, my copy of 'Mingus at Monterey' is the first Fantasy edition. I've seen single pocket sepia copies of 'Mingus at Monterey' but they have always been totally beat-up and not worth the effort buying.
  25. Welcome to the vinyl forum Kenneth - lots of good posts and fine people hang out here. To further enhance the LP listening experience I recommend getting hold of an LP cleaning machine (something like the VPI) to further add life to the old records. The results can be astonishing - if you do a search in this forum on 'VPI' you will see whole threads on this subject. Good listening !
