  1. Fascinating interview. I wonder which record label the 'one which shall be nameless' was? Savoy? Prestige?
  2. Looks like the Tal Farlow Mosaic is also listed at £32.95. Jeez - are they trying to give that one away?
  3. Indeed - that's a good 'un. Nelson also re-used the arrangement of 'Ja-Da' on another LP ('Live In Los Angeles', I think).
  4. Melba appeared on stage in LA in 1999 at a performance of the Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band (led by John Faddis). She didn't play but was wheeled on stage in her wheelchair to the trombone section and followed the charts as the band played. It was poignant to see but I feel fortunate that I was able to witness it. She looked to be enjoying herself.
  5. Very happy birthday !
  6. Happy 30th !
  7. I've got one of those - has Lexington label on one side and NY USA on the other with DG on at least one side. Just to complicate matters the sleeve is Lexington. I'll have to dig it out later. There must have been a job-lot of them shipped to the UK !
  8. Just dug out the 'Two Originals' MPS compilation of 'Happy Girl' and 'The Hip Walk'. Very nice indeed - I'm glad I picked up this CD back in the day. 'The Hip Walk' has also been reissued not too long ago on vinyl by MPS/Saba.
  9. Tony Coe 'Zeitgeist' (EMI Lansdowne)
  10. Water on CD 4MWB on vinyl.
  11. Get's a from me, a most interesting interview.
  12. Not only a collector but the 'collector's collector', no less..
  13. Joe Harriott/Amancio D'Silva 'Hum Dono' (UK Columbia Lansdowne). With Norma Winstone and Ian Carr. Lee Morgan 'The Sixth Sense' (BN Liberty strereo)
  14. Chet Baker/Russ Freeman Live LP set To be followed by selections from the Capitol Jazz Sessions LP set.
  15. Noticeably colder and longer Winter than usual here in the UK this year. Some pretty cold NE winds blasting in from the Continent..
  16. A good reminder for me to bring out the 'Live at the Montmatre' vinyl later today.
  17. Maybe 'coz he has a Mosaic still out?
  18. Eden Abez Tarzan Lord Greystoke
  19. Pee Wee Russell/Oliver Nelson 'The Spirit of '67' (Impulse stereo). With the nice Pee Wee cover art.
  20. No problem ! The Weston is definitely on my short-list for the next order from Mosaic. I think you will be impressed by the material which was put out by Blue Note some years back on 'Uhuru/Africa'. Awesome !
  21. The Selects have random numerical order when they are sent out so don't worry, I doubt it's that near to 'running low' (famous last words..) That Charles Tolliver is a great little set, BTW.
  22. There's also this nice one from the 1980s put out on Hothouse by the guys from Mole Jazz at the time (the band has Dusko Gojkovich)
  23. Good article, thanks for posting ! Some very thoughfull insights there from Mr Hill.
  24. It's only the Scots over here who play it !
