  1. Exactly! Third that ! Accept no substitutes..
  2. Last time I saw Alex Blake it was at Catalina's Bar & Grill in LA. I think he was in Mike Stern's group. Now playing Humphrey Lyttelton 'Buck and Me' (World Record Club mono). Session recorded at Interlaken, Switzerland with Buck Clayton, apparently quite rare. Picked up for £3 today.
  3. Great to hear that Fred J. is still in great shape ! His playing on this session is real nice. First time I've heard it, it's a gem. As for Horace - he seems ageless ! Great little place the Jazz Bakery. Fond memories of seeing Cecil Taylor and Jackie McLean (with Cedar Walton) there some years ago.
  4. Jimmy Smith 'Home Cookin' (BN mono NY USA DG side 2) Baby Face Willette 'Face To Face' (BN mono 47W63rd). Thanks to Allan for this one. Sounds Great !
  5. This morning it was Elvin Jones disk 5. The Mosaic equivalent of a cold morning shower..
  6. Yes. for a minute I thought there was going to be a communal punch up there (with the ref one of the protagonists). Fortunately they all came to their senses !
  7. England improved in the second half and won the game agsinst Uruguay 2:1, which is half-way encouraging. Sadly, the veteran Chelsea and England player Peter Osgood died yesterday at only 59 years of age so the players were wearing black armbands in recognition.
  8. Certainly opened my ears right up. Miles was one of the first jazz musicians I heard on LP and his music never ceases to amaze/delight.
  9. 1st of March and it is snowing ( ) outside. About 0C but absolutely beautiful skies. The drive to work will be fun today..
  10. Please........ not before my breakfast !
  11. Thanks, I'll check it out. Not too long ago I actually saw a box set of this in mint fir £10 but the cassette tape version. Not my favourite format !
  12. There's hope yet then for my old copy of 'The Flam'
  13. Chet Baker/Russ Freeman Live Pacific Jazz Mosaic LP2
  14. And Teo Macero's !
  15. Fascinating interview. I wonder which record label the 'one which shall be nameless' was? Savoy? Prestige?
  16. Looks like the Tal Farlow Mosaic is also listed at £32.95. Jeez - are they trying to give that one away?
  17. Indeed - that's a good 'un. Nelson also re-used the arrangement of 'Ja-Da' on another LP ('Live In Los Angeles', I think).
  18. Melba appeared on stage in LA in 1999 at a performance of the Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band (led by John Faddis). She didn't play but was wheeled on stage in her wheelchair to the trombone section and followed the charts as the band played. It was poignant to see but I feel fortunate that I was able to witness it. She looked to be enjoying herself.
  19. Very happy birthday !
  20. Happy 30th !
  21. I've got one of those - has Lexington label on one side and NY USA on the other with DG on at least one side. Just to complicate matters the sleeve is Lexington. I'll have to dig it out later. There must have been a job-lot of them shipped to the UK !
  22. Just dug out the 'Two Originals' MPS compilation of 'Happy Girl' and 'The Hip Walk'. Very nice indeed - I'm glad I picked up this CD back in the day. 'The Hip Walk' has also been reissued not too long ago on vinyl by MPS/Saba.
  23. Tony Coe 'Zeitgeist' (EMI Lansdowne)
  24. Water on CD 4MWB on vinyl.
