Melba appeared on stage in LA in 1999 at a performance of the Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band (led by John Faddis). She didn't play but was wheeled on stage in her wheelchair to the trombone section and followed the charts as the band played. It was poignant to see but I feel fortunate that I was able to witness it. She looked to be enjoying herself.
I've got one of those - has Lexington label on one side and NY USA on the other with DG on at least one side. Just to complicate matters the sleeve is Lexington. I'll have to dig it out later.
There must have been a job-lot of them shipped to the UK !
Just dug out the 'Two Originals' MPS compilation of 'Happy Girl' and 'The Hip Walk'. Very nice indeed - I'm glad I picked up this CD back in the day. 'The Hip Walk' has also been reissued not too long ago on vinyl by MPS/Saba.
No problem !
The Weston is definitely on my short-list for the next order from Mosaic. I think you will be impressed by the material which was put out by Blue Note some years back on 'Uhuru/Africa'. Awesome !
The Selects have random numerical order when they are sent out so don't worry, I doubt it's that near to 'running low' (famous last words..)
That Charles Tolliver is a great little set, BTW.
