  1. No doubt Carrie and the dog were happy to get him out of the house for a day..
  2. Please update us once you have got the gen from Jorge - thanks. Fall-back for Mosaics I guess would be from HQ - as per the past. Not many boxes coming out these days so not a showstopper.
  3. More business for Honest Jons then !
  4. Interesting - good to hear that you aren’t affected. River level and flow rate near my place today (piddling little puddle) was ‘robust’.
  5. Are the floods local to yourself?
  6. Any sign today of masked Boris in the RAF helicopter flying around and inspecting your neck of the woods, Bill?
  7. I guess once the powers that be in our various countries have all started introducing e-business taxes to help pay for the Covid costs, these charges will be even more astronomical.
  8. I guess you can blame the combination of Royal Mail and the US Postal Service for that. Royal Mail have recently applied some very big increases, including domestic Mail. Among other things, they have a big pension deficit of their people to bail out, not to mention massively dwindling business base from their ‘traditional’ letters and parcels business due to the likes of Amazon.
  9. Totally agree, Roger. That Barbara Thompson box is definitely on my radar - just starting to read her autobiography. With the forthcoming new ‘Jazz In Britain’ releases, this is an unexpected cornucopia in challenging times.
  10. I have a copy of the King too but have yet to do a thorough cross-check. The top and bottom end of the sonics seem to be better on the TP.
  11. That misprint is just on the initial batch of European copy protected RVG CDs. I still have one. I’m impressed with the sound on this one too.
  12. I enjoyed his book about Claude Ranger and this Sonny Greenwich bio is definitely on my list.
  13. Never saw him myself either. I was abroad in 1990 and the one chance I did get, a rare solo piano recital in Western Canada circa 1994, I missed ! (Not sure why, might have been on business). Admission was something daft like $8 too, very low profile appearance during the Canadian Summer Festival season. Was hoping to put that right in the late 90s, sadly not to be. His spirit was well and truly there though ! Continuing the Mosaic vinyl theme du jour, selections of this one followed by the J J Johnson Columbia vinyl set. ‘Slightly Latin’ is a very good album, very much under-rated IMO. A sort of cheesy approach, yes - but full of surprise and good humour. Some good playing on there by the likes of Martin Banks and - especially - Horace Parlan.
  14. Checked up my old post on this on the ‘Tapscott’ thread and Bobby Bradford was also in the lineup. I remember Gary Bias and Roberto Miranda in the Arkestra as well. Board Member Adam was also in the audience that day, per his post. It seems largely to have been something of an ‘Arkestra Friends and Family’ thing so we were lucky to have attended.
  15. Memories of attending Tapscott’s ‘wake’ performance in LA. It was billed as a fund raising tribute to help him with hospital treatment. They announced on the day from the stage that he had sadly passed away just the night before so it turned out to be a memorial. As well as the Arkestra there was Pharoah Sanders, Vi Redd and the Watts Prophets in the lineup that I can remember. Gerald Wilson and his family were sat right behind me.
  16. Fair enough ! Tonight’s brew -
  17. Don’t you guys ever drink beer? I was always under the impression that the German speaking peoples were beer drinkers..
  18. Delighted to get hold of a copy of this one. Especially with a new Taylor release on the horizon. Board member Clifford gets another honourable mention in the text. Tadd Dameron bio also on order and arriving in a couple of days. Slowly working my way through the list of books I needed to get.
  19. Found a near mint vinyl of the ‘Inc 1’ on DIW a year or so back, well worth getting. Will try to give it a spin today.
  20. I think the luvvies at the BBC (Radio and TV) have over-bombarded us with the Bowie thing over the last few weeks. Anyone would think he was the only musician out there ! (end of gripe )
  21. Presumably what they are planning is an expansion and sonic upgrade of the broad content of the excellent old 4CD box?
  22. Those Decca British jazz vinyl reissues should help - assuming they actually happen. I think ‘Pendulum’ was the one mentioned in that possible first batch though. The CDs for both of them didn’t hang around long either. ’Jazz In Britain’ has a NEW Mike Taylor coming up, apparently. The recording comes from the Jon Hiseman archive and I think it will be on CD and vinyl. Meanwhile, their new Rendell/Carr is just about to sell out 3 months before it is actually released ! Definitely a good move. It would seem that they took the music from the CD and made a terrible job of it. Fingers crossed for a legit reissue from Decca/Gearbox. Just checked and ‘Trio’ is on Spotify.
  23. That Russian release is a bootleg - and rubbish quality apparently.
