  1. Great album by JJ ! Full Bandcamp digital version.
  2. Looks like an archived version of the event will be ‘up shortly’, via the original UCLA-supplied link. Might get to see the whole thing !
  3. I’ve played it quite a bit already via the Bandcamp app. A bit of a legendary band, this is from broadcasts I think and part of the Jon Hiseman archive. Without this LP there would be no recorded legacy that I know of. Sure to sell out pretty quick. Between us we have 1/250 of available stock !
  4. Just ordered an LP of Group Sounds Four and Five ‘Black and White Raga’ (Jazz In Britain)
  5. Woody Shaw ‘Lotus Flower’ (Enja) Neil Swainson ‘49th Parallel’ (Concord) Jackie McLean ‘Dynasty’ (Triloka) Hilton Ruiz ‘El Camino’ (RCA Novus) Tony Williams ‘Civilization’ (Blue Note) Andrew Hill ‘But Not Farewell’ (Blue Note) Dave Holland ‘Extensions’ (ECM) Pat Metheny ‘Rejoicing’ (ECM) Ralph Peterson ‘Introducing the Fo’Tet’ (Blue Note) All standouts, for me.
  6. The Vortex and Solid State albums are the ones I always go to - plus The sessions with Blue Mitchell. The Blue Note twofer ‘Circulus’ is great too. Plus his fantastic work on ‘Sweet Rain’. Will be spinning some of his vinyl today in tribute.
  7. My copy is signed by Al !
  8. Not often you see film of Victor Feldman on congas either ! Wonder if anyone else outside the US was able to view this one without the frequent outages requiring reloads from the link - or maybe it was my rubbish internet?
  9. Not often that the main BBC Radio News has a feature on a jazz fatality, which they did last night and this morning. They even played a snippet of a track from ‘Now He Sings...’.
  10. I think I saw that Julie London clip of ‘Free and Easy’ at one of Mark Cantor’s film shows a fair number of years ago. Nice to be reminded of it again. Just a shame that the soloists never have much time on these short shows to stretch out a bit. The Booker Little glimpses were priceless - George C. and Ray Draper too.
  11. For kinescope Recordings, the restoration was pretty damn good. Impressive !
  12. Sadly, the video feed kept locking up here but what I saw was very interesting. Need to get the book ! A big improvement in the quality of the Max Roach restoration compared with the version on a YouTube. Thanks !
  13. Dreadful news, just heard it on the radio - RIP. I did get to see him with both his electric and acoustic lineups. I think the last time was with Tim Garland and Avashai Cohen, can’t recall who was on drums.
  14. Jazz Journal used to have a page full of details of those ‘recital clubs’ up and down the country. Often with lectures by prominent critics etc. Never went to one ! For some reason though, they seemed to be concentrated on London/SE or Manchester.
  15. From the Hayes CD box
  16. Looks like this will be a very late night. Just got my registration. Kickoff 12am local time.
  17. Which is pretty indicative of the temperature outside today.
  18. Thread here - http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/67350-hiroshi-tanno-to-close-down-his-store/
  19. Mr Hiroshi Tanno - very fine purveyor of jazz vinyl and CDs. He used to run an Internet site up until the late 2000s I think. He posted listings of what was in stock (much of it very difficult to get outside Japan and all of it in very fine condition) and the price and condition. You then emailed him to get confirmation that it was available and he tallied up your total so that you could then put in your order. I think he even did a $ or £ conversion so no faffing about with Yen. All highly civilised ! And at a time that shipping costs were reasonable and import taxes a bit lower. And the Yen more affordable ! Much of the stock Hiroshi offered was King or Toshiba reissues but he did also trade originals such as Blue Notes. Beyond my pay grade ! Hiroshi took retirement I believe sometime before 2010. I remember hearing though that his shop remained open for some time for in-person custom.
  20. I only ever bought LPs from him - either King or Toshiba. They were always immaculately packed though, with the sleeves and LPs separated.
  21. Absolutely. Mr Tanno was a super guy to deal with and his LPs always arrived in superlative condition and pretty quick. If he said it was ‘M-‘ you would be hard pressed to find fault with it. The new crew of Millennial vinyl fetishists need to discover Hiroshi-san !
  22. Don’t recall ever hearing about them here.
  23. Just about every time in the latter years that I ever saw Elvin he include ‘It Don’t Mean A Thing’ - with obligatory grunting accompaniment, bless him. Great memories !
  24. Hiroshi was the gold standard. You are right - back cover slight brown staining quite often seen, rarely severe. The humidity and temperature of Japanese houses perhaps?
