  1. Thanks. If it is there, it is literally right at the start. Either a bump or dip in the vinyl. Nothing major - but annoying !
  2. Does it have a pressing fault at the start of side 1? Many of them pressed seem to have this.
  3. CD5 - singles session.
  4. Earlier on - obscure gem from 1970 on Esoteric. ‘London Jazz Four’ updated.
  5. CD10 inc. Getz and JJ.
  6. Sad news - RIP. I remember seeing his name mentioned as promoter at a Maynard concert I saw (Fairfield Halls, Croydon) and of course he figures strongly in the Bill Birch book. Relatives of mine caught some of his Southport shows e.g. Stan Kenton in the 70s. Indeed it would ! I wonder who is on these?
  7. Funnily enough, I remember seeing Rich and Co. play the ‘West Side Story’ Medley when I saw them in 1980.
  8. I Red/purple mono pressing. Interesting progression from ‘Blue Spirits’. I wonder at what time Hubbard came under the management of the late Clarence Avant and whether or not this led to the more commercial direction?
  9. Yes, I have ‘The Kicker’ on the Conn CD as well. Nothing profound but very enjoyable, like lots of Blue Notes of this type. It deserved a release at the time it was recorded. Sound is better than the Conn - significantly so, lovely and clear. I was playing the LP of that one recently. The first track (‘Shell Game’) is a cracker. Ed Soph on drums is outstanding.
  10. Not hi-fi but the music is A1. Georgie Fame appears on CD4 doing ‘Sound Venture’ material. Ace notes by Simon Spillett.
  11. Looks like Mosaic expect to restock in October. That first batch went fast !
  12. Ha ! I have the exact same issue.... but with ‘Norman Bates’. 😂 https://youtu.be/zthChjUe1II In the deep recesses of my memory I seem to recall Landscape doing a BBC Radio 3 ‘Jazz In Britain’ slot a few years before their chart hits. No doubt they didn’t do ‘Einstein’ or ‘Norman’.
  13. Never thought of it as jazz at the time but undoubtedly jazz influenced. I think their follow up, ‘Norman Bates’, made the charts too. Lyricon player John L. Walters did some later work with Ian Carr I think in a more obviously jazzy style.
  14. Their single ‘Einstein a go go’ was even a big hit over here back in the day and I remember seeing it on TV on the weekly Top Of The Pops ! Trombonist Pete Thoms used to feature on quite a few pop hits of around that time (early 80s) too e.g. with Thomas Dolby.
  15. Sorry to hear that - out of stock at Mosaic as well ? That was ridiculously quick, I guess they will be producing more batches. The booklet has good notes by Bob Blumenthal but no original sleeve notes. Sound by the way is really excellent - best on CD I have heard by far.
  16. CD4 - ‘Quintets’ and ‘Cool Struttin’’.
  17. Those Rearwards are all good. As is that gem !
  18. I’ve retired and if anything I’ve been ramping up...🤔
  19. Yes, I was impressed with the way they have structured the disks too. What a start on disk 1 with Mobley and Trane. Some pretty generous playing times on those early disks too. Maybe it is me but I like the way this set has the clarity so that Clark’s accompaniment of the soloists can be really appreciated. Bob Bloomenthal’s booklet notes are good too. Not least for explaining that ‘News For Lulu’ was written for Clark’s dog and not Louise Brooks as I’d always assumed !
  20. Mine has arrived via Royal Mail - packaged immaculately as usual by jazzmessengers and in less than a week. Some good listening coming up this afternoon ! Updated to add that the sound is really excellent. Easily trounces the old RVGs and Conns.
  21. So - ‘Let Freedom Ring’ should be in a forthcoming batch..
  22. One of my favourite local second hand book outlets had a whole row of Ellington books on display, this being one of them. On first visit I saw this one but the price, although very fair, didn’t get me to pounce. I did buy Ralph Gleason’s tribute volume though. A month or two later on my next visit it was hidden in the shelf priced at £5 so I pounced. Pretty well as-new too !
