  1. Yes, it is a gem for sure. Agree totally re: Roach too. He is absolutely on fire but in a 100% controlled manner on tracks such as ‘Lover’. Glorious stuff. Great feature for Yusef in ‘Like Someone in Love’ too. Back on deck for a well deserved re-spin or three. Wonderful !
  2. Such a shame these days that we will not have the pleasure of tours by Pat with his latter day groups. Great while it lasted though. I think the last time I caught him was at an in-person film viewing of his documentary put on by the Welcome Foundation. There was a Q&A session covering his medical treatment and recovery. Will have to dig out the DVD of that film.
  3. Sad news, RIP. I did see him in action once at a live Candid club recording.
  4. Yes, they were ‘two for the price of one’. I think I have all of them except the Trane.
  5. Yes, there was a whole series of them. Mingus, Trane, Freddie Hubbard, MJQ.
  6. On my list in that vinyl reissue. Great series from Mosaic while it lasted. Slide was an absolute master at making a mid sized band sound twice as big. Brilliant work by Roach and Lateef on this one too.
  7. Just reading Bob Blumenthal’s sleeve notes and he mentions a rumour that Miles was planning some comeback gigs. Prophetic !
  8. I’ve got a tracking number at least now so it’s getting nearer on the Mosaic banana boat !
  9. Bought this one when it came out - this one and ‘Circle In The Round’ were welcome releases in Miles’ quiet period.
  10. I was thinking it could be Alan Skidmore. Alan or Allen? 😀
  11. A bit ‘after the event’ but I have copies of ‘Contours’, ‘My Conception’ and ‘New Wine Old Bottles’ on their way. A bit of a catch-up.
  12. I remember that one coming out and nearly bought it. In the end, didn’t because of the overlap with the earlier 2LP set.
  13. Yeah, I saw them around 1992/3 too.
  14. Now up for pre-order, release mid-March.
  15. Diggin’ into a bunch of Tone Poets, starting with this one - First Mingus LPs I ever got were his ‘The Atlantic Years’ twofer, a fantastic compilation, with ‘Blues and Roots’ featuring strongly. I think no. 2 was that America 3LP set, astonishing stuff. The silver cover German Warner Bros. Series - ‘That’s Jazz’ I think they were called. Have quite a few of them - Giant Steps, MJQ, Fat Albert Rotunda etc. Followed by -
  16. She gets a nice mention and photo in the Mosaic Black and White set booklet. Mosaic’s Scott mentions seeing her play piano at a party in honour of Louis Armstrong and very nicely too.
  17. A good afternoon to crack open this box -
  18. Near enough, I guess ! 😆 Rare picture there these days of a Pearly King and Queen. Once a fairly regular sight in the Smoke, I guess these days they have been ‘cancelled’..
  19. Same crowd demographic of the particular time who would then progress to rock and roll, Hendrix etc. and subsequently punk so goes with the territory I guess.
  20. Need to get hold of that one before it disappears !
  21. All of those GKK ‘first issues’ were put out in the late 70s/early 80s. They caused quite a stir amongst Blue Note fans at the time. I used to drool over them in the racks when seen at Mole Jazz In the Imports section but being a poor student at the time it was the £1.99 deletion racks or nothing for me. The Kings were around £7.50-£9 and limited issue. 🙁 They didn’t last for too long here either and became scarce and even higher price when second hand. Over the years, I filled some gaps. Yes, the Paul Kuhn is a very nice sounding audiophile issue. Good job there by In&Out Records of Koblenz.
  22. Why is that? All of those GXK Grant Green Kings used the Warhol-like graphics I think.
  23. Yes, ‘Ezz-Thetics’ is on there. The cover art is the one used on the King LP when the Japanese first issued this session. I think the blue cover photo was used on the Conn CD. I only have a couple of these BN Classics but happy with this one.
