  1. The whole lot were on display recently at HMV in Oxford St, London. Didn't realise that they were Fresh Sound. Over £20 a pop too !
  2. My box is now 'shipping', apparently..
  3. Ha !
  4. Or the betting shop for the Cheltenham Gold Gup (I was in the general area yesterday and 'race fever' was regrettably hyped up as per usual).
  5. No kidding - motherload !
  6. Have been listening to it myself over the last week and I agree - it's a nice set. Nothing profound but thoroughly enjoyable listen. Added plus of Horace Tapscott on trombone too !
  7. and Marc Boland/T Rex, Neil Ardley and Cosmic Eye Dream Sequence !
  8. I heard some of it on the radio this morning on my way to work. Awful. The band was decent I guess, but his squawking was insufferable. If your voice is like Britt Daniel from Spoon, you shouldn't be singing jazz standards. O heck - he's 'Director In Residence' up in Cheltenham in a few weeks time so chances are he'll be out and about. Haven't bought a ticket for his gig.
  9. I hear you. It's only by repeated listening to the Mosaic box that I really got it (although latched on to 'Black Fire', 'Our Thing' and 'Grass Roots' on first hearing). Listening to him in concert on solo piano at the QEH was when it all gelled for me. His conception of elastic time is both strange and unique. With 'Passing Ships' it's a shame there wasn't another session or two to iron out the rough spots - however much of the music is moving and inspired.
  10. GREAT that Mosaic are offering this sale and the Hamp set is on my list (as is Chu Berry). I will probably go for a McCoy Select as well. Plus the £ has gone up marginally too today, every little helps
  11. Rainer Werner Fassbinder Prince Rainier Reinier
  12. His Mrs is nice..
  13. Dig the vertical deflection limiter !
  14. Clifford Jordan 'Glass Bead Games' (Stata-East, 2LPs0
  15. Neil Ardley 'A Symphony Of Amaranths' (Regal Zonophone, stereo sample copy). Beautiful !
  16. Neil Ardley 'Mike Taylor Remembered' (Trunk Records) To be followed by some Mike Taylor..
  17. $35.90 for me too. I was looking at the standard shipping options list and pretty well everything there was $40 and up. $17.95 at the checkout is more like it. Hope the post-lady can carry it !
  18. Ha ! Have got that one - Remember reading somewhere that the photo was shot in the back room of Dobell's Record Shop? If so, Sandy must have frozen his nuts off Interesting album - where else can you hear trombonist George Chisholm in duet with 'Johnny' McLaughlin !
  19. Well, Gordon Brown is trying to get an export drive going.. They were fabulous pressings - heavy vinyl deep groove, usually way better sounding than the US originals. Not to be mentioned in the same breath as these Piratical operations...
  20. It's certainly the one I play the most..
  21. Too bad the export shipping is over $40..
  22. That makes 2 of us - I'm still on CD2. The Bix box is very highly recommended - another classy Mosaic box. Good move to pick up a copy.
  23. Was it a better session for being had at that price? At the time I'd never seen any copy of this - on LP or CD so even though it was one of those garbage Applause reissues it was a no-brainer (not to mention getting change out of a Loonie ). Since then I've picked up a near-mint mono vinyl original so it gathers dust ! Maybe I should do an Applause Label freak show display? I like this session by the way, although it regularly gets panned.
