  1. My Box (Mk 2) promo issue has arrived from Sony UK Certainly an improvement with the non-hinge lid and the CDs are a bit easier to get out of the sleeves. 'Sans glue' - otherwise as per the Mk 1 set. Now I have one set for downstairs and another for upstairs listening.
  2. Ratzo Harris Mousey Alexander Squirrel Ashcraft Rag Tag Bobtail
  3. Leonard Sachs Andrew Sachs Basil The Rat
  4. Last saw him nearly 30 years ago now as part of a double bill at Ronnie Scotts with Cedar Walton (the same venue where he tried out Miles' sunglasses ). Amazing that he's still actively performing - would be interested to hear how it goes. I'll post a report. Prof. Corey is 95, so I'm hoping for the best. Wow - I figured he was well into his 60s when I saw him. Even though he was wearing baseball sneakers with his tux !

  10. Sounds good ! That Little Theatre venue in Bath was a good one though. Very nice late night performance there last year with David Okumu's Group, one of the highlights of last year's festival. Nice vibe.
  11. I was disappointed with the Cheltenham lineup and only the Carla Bley, Empirical and Yeoh/Surman are really of interest. Yep, I'd noticed the Everyman out of action too - however they seem to have a new enclosure venue and maybe they are using that as an alternative so as to get more punters in. Don't like the Jamie Cullum slant this year I'm afraid. Bath looks better. Kenny Wheeler, Django Bates Parker project, Tom Arthurs, David Murray and a welcome return for Martial Solal (that solo 1987/88 performance in the Guildhall - or was it the Assembly Rooms? - was memorable). Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to wrap things up too ! Also at Bath, they seem to have reverted to using the Pavillion more this year. Nice also that Bath does a season pass - will probably go for that option this year.
  12. True - I just want the cover with the demented head and title on it.
  13. I predict a mass Buffalo-hunt shoot-em-up for these sets headed up by the collective membership of the O-Board.
  14. Must find a vinyl of that (just have the Verve Elite Edition CD)
  15. Whole concert has just been posted up on dime ! Updated to say that it sounds very, very good indeed - although it took 4CDs to fit the whole lot on.
  16. Reminds me of that episode of 70s UK TV comedy series 'The Goodies' where they started up a radio station with only one beaten up 45rpm single played continuously - Jankowski's 'A Walk In The Black Forest' Now spinning Stan Tracey Big Brass 'We Love You Madly' (UK Columbia Lansdowne series, stereo)
  17. Too much of this sort of stuff going on. For all of the attractiveness of the music they put out, I avoid these labels like the plague.
  18. Happy Birthday Noj !
  19. Joe Harriott 'Movement' is also well overdue CD reissue.
  20. Guy Warren of Ghana - 'Afro Jazz' New Jazz Orchestra - 'Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe' (have the vinyl - it is fantastic) Phil Seaman - 'Live' Harold McNair - 'Afectionate Fink' Colin Bates Trio - 'Brew' Dick Morrissey - 'Storm Warning' I could go on for hours but these will do for a starter..
  21. A most worthy cause..
  22. Too bad there's no Gerald Wilson Orchestra in the lineup !
  23. He's performing this project at the Lighthouse, Poole later in March. I'm tempted !
  24. Hee hee - if you had queued with me and Ray Russell you could have had a beer ! Bought a copy 'on the night' and can vouch that it is a mighty fine and objective read - always a pleasure to read about those classic 60s and 70s albums. Respect !
  25. A comprehensive review of the concert by Roger here Fantastic to hear that BBC Radio 3 have recorded it for future broadcast. Made my day !
