  1. Wayne Shorter 'Phantom Navigator' (UK CBS)
  2. Interesting ! There's a picture of this group at Ronnie Scotts in the 'Fourty Five Year Anniversary' book (one of Val Wilmer's I think) but with Charles Tolliver in place of Turrentine. That's one heck of a lineup of great artists you saw at the Ernie Garside place, BillF
  3. Tubby Hayes 'Down In The Village' (UK Fontana, stereo) (Alan Ganley, RIP)
  4. François Mitterand Mr Sarkozy Mrs Sarkozy
  5. Reuben Wilson 'Blue Mode' (90s BN Rare groove edition)
  6. It certainly seems to do the job with 2 applications. For intensive operations, the RRL solutions are probably still the best for me using the VPI but for routine cleaning 'Art du Son' is more than adequate. I think the noticeable improvements are the remover of gunge that is embedded in the grooves at manufacture. Seemed to have a very noticeable effect with a French DMM pressing.
  7. Ebay madness lives. Over $100 per LP ! Jimmy Smith
  8. Isn't this the one where about 20% of them have had to be sent back for repair of defects? Not in Germany - surely?
  9. Up again for this one. I've just been trying out 'L'Art du Son'. First impressions are good - crisp sound and what seems to be more precision at the top end and bass. It's biodegradeable but you just mix up small quantities 1 part to 50 with de-ionised water. Not cheap to buy the 100ml bottle (£30) but over the long term it looks to be an economical option.
  10. John Dankworth Orchestra 'Full Circle' (UK Philips, stereo) - an initial outing for L'Art du Son record cleaning fluid.
  11. Just checked the book. It was one month at Scott's in April 1968, then the trip to 'Club 43' (not '54' as I stated above) then off to Paris for 'Le Chat-Qui-Peche', amongst other places. 'Reach Out' was recorded in January, just before the European trip/sojourn.
  12. The new book mentions this gig - presumably at "Club 54" in 1968. Arranged by Pete King of Ronnie Scotts' Productions after Mobley's residency there.
  13. Wakefield West Yorks - Home of flat caps, tripe, whippets and..... jazz vinyl !
  14. By the time this was issued in the US they stopped importing the nasty Pathe pressings and manufactured them at Wakefield, the outfit that I used when I had a choice. Yes, the US versions are distinctly better. I still have a mountain of those French Pathe Marconis and these days they tend to collect quite a bit of dust. At the time though in Blue Note-starved UK the music therein was a total and utter revelation
  15. I want a coffee table like that !
  16. Hank Mobley 'Far Away Lands' (BN French Pathe Marconi DMM). A mid-80s vinyl time capsule with 'Our Price £5.99' sticker on the shrink-wrap and the Blue Note poster still in situ. Good sound too, considering it's a DMM !
  17. Second the on 'Far Away Lands' - it's a good one. Love the way that Mobley comes out of the blocks in his solo on the first track - 'A Dab Of This And That'. Like he really means business.
  18. The Sam Rivers was issued in the mid-70s on the 'brown cover' series of Libery/UA 2LP sets put out by Msrs Cuscuna and Lourie ('Involution'). The first single LP issue was the mid-80s DMM.
  19. I've got the Parker. As far as I can remember, it IS a DMM job and I think it was manufactured in France. I just went to dig it out and find I've misfiled it! Arrrrgghhhh!!!! What the hell do you do when you mifile an LP? (sigh) I'll confirm this when I find the bugger. MG Yes, I have the Leo Parker too on vinyl. Great cover design. Definitely a DMM and from Pathe Marconi, France.
  20. Tubby Hayes Quintet and Orchestra 'Tubbs' (Fontana, stereo)
  21. He's also featured on many a vintage 'Jazz 625' broadcast. The ones which come to mind are those featuring Tubby Hayes Orchestra, Benny Golson and Clark Terry/Bob Brookmeyer. One of his very great strengths was diplomacy and an ability to adjust to a wide variety of contexts - which stood him in great stead at 'Ronnies'.
  22. Great to see that this is still available at a half-way reasonable price. Highly recommended !
  23. Ah, so it was. Now why did I think Glasgow? Very strange some of the detours these US mailings take. My last one (from Music Matters I think) went via Sweden, for some inexplicable reason. No doubt the same reason that BA delayed luggage to Heathrow is going via Milan...
