  1. I don't go with some of those comments that Lee was a declining force with faltering chops in later years and along with the 'Lighthouse' set these videos just go to prove it. Much as I like the performance of 'Angela' on the 2LP set the version here is even better I think. Dig also the fact that Jymie Merritt is up front and very interactive with the front line. Adds considerably to the performance.
  2. My last package from the US came via Sweden with nice Swedish blue postal bag so who knows - it could currently be sat on a shelf in Narvik I'm sure it will turn up soon !
  3. Miles Davis 'Sorcerer' (Columbia 2-eye stereo)
  4. Pat Martino 'El Hombre' (Prestige, stereo) Exercising demo phono stage
  5. Not to mention the Scoobie Doo lookalike hounds from hell. All it needed was Stonehenge in the background.
  6. Can't beat home cooking and then just adding 'salt to taste' (ie. a smidgin).
  7. George Cables 'Why Not' (Japanese Why Not)
  8. They couldn't cope with the correct title of the LP back then. There would have been too many old bats spitting out their tea in shock. Strange this, coming from a label that had UK jazz LPs at the time by the likes of Johnny Spence and Phil Seamen with cuties in negliges. An LP of this title would be nice but I'll live with the VEE I guess.
  9. They can has cheezburger? Seriously, nice picture, Erik. Yep, nice shot indeed !
  10. Paul Desmond/Jim Hall Complete Studio LP set, LP1. Working my way through this set.
  11. Miles Davis All Stars 'Walkin'' (Prestige Bergenfield DG mono, sleeve NY). Sounds
  12. Miles Davis 'Miles' (Prestige Bergenfield DG mono)
  13. Caesar Augustus Vespasian Dioclesian
  14. I crashed out in a car once by the carcass of the biosphere. Good, cheap accomodation. Woken up by party animals with ghetto blasters though..
  15. Wayne Shorter 'Odyssey Of Iska' (BN Libery stereo)
  16. Damn - that is sad . The live jazz scene in Toronto used to be excellent and all-year-round too, not just at the time of the Du Maurier festival. Healthy lineup of 'domestic' music and good stream of top-flight US visitors (although my recollections are nearly 20 years ago now). Glad to hear that the Rex Hotel is still operational though.

I agree porcy - it's whatever your ears tell you is better on your particular system and whether or not that improvement is worth the $ required. No hard and fast rules - it's trial and error.
  18. Harry Beckett 'Flare Up' (Philips, stereo) I love Bank Holdays, where you can play vinyl all night and not worry about going into work the next day
  19. I hear the ice fishing at Thunder Bay is good at the moment
  20. Herbie Hancock 'Maiden Voyage' (BN NY USA mono, DG side one)
  21. Up for this thread - BBC Radio 4 is doing a 2-part feature on Wolfman Jack and station XERA and the 'Border Blasters' at the moment. A very interesting broadcast - and they also mention the goat gonad injections ! The AM signal could apparently be picked up in continental Europe if the tropospheric conditions were right. The birds flying near the transmitter tower literally dropped out of the sky. and it would seem that, prior to arriving at XERA, Wolfman Jack started off as a DJ playing soul-jazz stuff by Jimmy Smith, Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis etc.
