McIntosh products are VERY overrated. I once had an audiophile buddy who lent me some of their classic tube amplifiers, just for comparison to some other amps I had heard. They are not as dynamic or natural sounding; though they look pretty. My HH Scott kicks their butt for sound quality. Even the Decware amps sound better. Totally agree, you could find hundred of better sounding amp/preamp on used market and at cheaper prices. Never understood the worshipping of McIntosh products, maybe they were "the best money could afford" back in the sixties, (though back then Quad and Marantz were pretty good too) but now

That's damn cheap ! Minimum I've seen round here is £1.03 a litre, which equates to about £4.60 a gallon, ie. a socking $9.75 a gallon There were 'plans' by the Government to add another 2p per litre tax in todays budget but looks like they might defer it. Maybe they think they will have another fuel mutiny on their hands. Around here minimum is £1.039. But where you have to go to get that price, you might as well pay the average of £1.069 and save your petrol. MG I think I'll pass on my planned motorbike trip to Scotland this summer.

Are you kidding? In Italy is $ 8.14 per gallon, if I correctly converted all the stuff.

Thanks Kevin for the info, I have the original pressings of Gordon and Hancock, but I was planning to give to Cisco a chance for some other titles. It seems too late. edit: actually I have the two Joan Baez's Vanguard of Cisco, I listened to them once, just to check flaws, not a serious listening.

I loved the Super Elys (the purple one) when I ran it on my P3. I was worried about stylus wear so I bought a new Elys 2 as the Super was discontinued. The Rega rep I e-mailed swore it would sound the same as the Super, and would be a better tracker (my one complaint about the Super). I found the harshness of the Elys 2 to be unbearable. I had the same question about break-in time but decided I don't have the patience to wait. I still find it a little odd that the carts would be that much different, but after much tweaking of the setup I just couldn't get it to be tolerable in my system. I've since purchased a Shure VX15VxMR and find it to be pure heaven with the vintage phono stage in my trusty old Marantz 7. Try a Dynavector 10x5. I used one on the P3 for a while and it was a great match until I switched to the vintage preamp, which doesn't seem to like MC carts. Agree about break-in time, expecially with expensive gear. Let's take esoteric fully tubed preamp, my personal experience. I mean the seller will not borrow you a costly preamp for a couple of months until it will reach his top performances, so what's point? How can you buy a $$$$ stuff hoping that after 300 hours it will match with your other components? Freaking crazy. Cartdriges are even worst, nobody will get one back because of break-in time. Bad commercial politic. They should have demos to audition in your system, quite impossible for expensive stuff over here.

I have it on the Mosaic vinyl box set. Often I got the feeling that al these big sets missed the impact of the single record in the music history. One of the reasons because I love original pressings instead of reissues. An original pressing has the 'climax' of 'here' and 'now'. You put the LP on the TT and say: Wow! This was something at times! I know, I know, some of you, jazz musicians and historians, has the skills to get it from a downloaded album. I need the 'real thing', I am a caveman: I have to touch and sniff and handle those old records.

Some particularly nice spots in there: I really enjoyed the Lao PDR, though that was 20 years ago Same for Cambodia, though I probably wouldn't recognize the place anymore. No hotels back then. Well, none bigger than a breadbox. Alaska is one of my favorite places. Marrakech was a bit touristy for me (though entertaining!); I liked Fez and Rabat, though my total time in both was just a month. I spent more or less three months in India, and it was quite an experience, northwest and south. I am talking about fifteen years ago. I was in Marrakech this Christmas, after ten years from my first visit and it's totally changed, tourist and money rules. Fez and Rabat are still the "true Morocco", tough things is rapidly changing everywhere. Turkey it's interesting place: two different world, Istanbul (and mediterranean coast) and Anatolia. I was in Mozambique for my job: shooting a documentary just after the end of civil war, though place at times. Burma, Lao and Cambodia was three different trips, I particulary loved Burmese's people. At times I was a backpacker so no hotels and lots of public transports. Overall I got unforgettable memories of all of my travels. For sure travelling is best way to lost and find a better yourself.

Travel? Do I like travel? South Africa, Mozambique, Morocco, Egypt, Swaziland, Madagascar, India (two times) Lao, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Canada, Alaska, Caribbean, (some of ), Turkey, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, basically all Europe, NordCapp with motorbike, and I am planning a perfect nomad life when I'll retired.

No opinions but that particular Mosaic was one of the few of their vinyls on my potential shopping list. Is the sound that bad? It varies a lot from track to track, MC in the liner notes said about the awful condition of master tapes at PJ, they had to get some tracks from old 78 record. To gather all the recordings of this particular quartet, they used a lot of different sources. There is a digital transfer. Overall I presume that this is the best form to have all the output of Baker/Freeman quartet togheter. I was asking myself if some early original pressings of part of this stuff could sound better. Anyway I didn't hear the later CD issues, actually I am not even aware of their existence, so I couldn't really grade the sound of Mosaic. The music is great IMO, so it worths to investigate for you, if you haven't got these.

Just finished Baker/Freeman Studio Recordings, Mosaic. Not the best sounding Mosaic I have. Due to masters condition and digital transfert, I know, but it happened I love the sessions. Any opinions about the original PJ pressings, or later WP reissues, did anybody compared them with Mosaic? Does it might worthing a seach for earlier pressings?

Has anybody any idea of the numbers of posts we'll need to solve the JFK case? Meanwhile I want all the forum cleared, snipers on the roofs around the building of the server and 24 h satellite surveillance.

The greatest news from Mosaic would be they will reissue on vinyl too. Damn, I bet they would sell out the Jamal's sets in a year. I'll buy it anyway even on cd, but why not exploiten the vinyl's nuts like me? I am ready, Mistress, whip my wallet harder, yesss, more, harder...
