To me these performances enlightened Brahms as the first 'modern' opposed to the common 'the latest of 'classic'.

Brahms Piano Concertos Gilels/Jochum Berliner Philarmoniker DG
-
Wow, love these. I was used to more "classic" performances of these. I've got the impression that most performances were looking at classic Beethoven's works. (aka not the latest quartets or sonatas) Gilels/Jochum's gazes were lookin forward to Mahler and Bruckner, maybe Wagner. Is it the correct Brahms's interpretation? I guess so, considering that they followed Brahms's kadenz. Any thoughts?

alfred brendel to retire at end of next year
porcy62 replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Classical Discussion
Clem, I am a MOTORbiker, so I am a serious follower of MOTORbike's racing. I quitted following bike racing because of doping scandals many years ago, after Pantani's story. Never heard of Dario Pegoretti. Anyway I think I got your points, from all your posts I read in the years I desume that: 1) nobody is great on all composers/works 2) somebody is somewhat corrupted by the label's star system and quit to explore/advance, tho some of his/her early performances could be notable/worthing to discover/rediscover 3) somebody achieved a deep view ageing, like a great red wine. -

Clem, I understand your points, though I am not an expert of classical music at all. It just happen that I am reading a Lester Bangs' book, and I remember your post about Bangs e Astral Week. You said F*** Lester, but both of you share the very same attitude towards music business, no offense, obviously. -
Easy to say that to do in a normal house.

The next organissimo record on vinyl?
porcy62 replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
This is partially wrong, a thing can be collectible as far as it's no longer, or scarcely, available, look at all limited editions like Mosaic. Overall I think that something is collectible as far as exist collectors ready to pay for it. Obviously since most collectors are nuts and all are earth-borns you'll never know if something produced todays in small numbers in order to be collectible today will be collectible tomorrow. -
The next organissimo record on vinyl?
porcy62 replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
This makes sense, commercially speaking... but first delete all the SH related threads that went on the forum and buy some spare muzzles for members... BTW I would love to buy your next album in vinyl, but I'd do it in cd as well, though vinyl... -
Actually I do it for most of the stuff, but I've got still some unpluggable devices: cordless phones and the modem that makes working my telephonic line as well. And some stuff are plugged in sockets hardly reachable, behind furnitures, ecc. An hassle that producers may have spare to us if they'd conceive better their products.

I have a laptop too, and actually you may be right, JLarsen should know it, I guess, but overall I think that's a brilliant approach to enviromental issues. Once upon a time I worked in magnetic memory systems (for about 1.5 years); I only know other aspects of hardware technology from overhearing things at the water cooler. That being said, my non-authoritative understanding is that the fluorescent tubes on an lcd monitor are always on at the same voltage regardless of what is being displayed on the screens. Thanks, I always appreciate your "non-authoritative understanding".

From the link RC provides, it appears that plugging off all the electronic/electric devices is the only effective way to cut off energy wasting.
-
Yep, thanks! Think I have to add an ? at the thread title.

http://www.blackle.com/ How is Blackle saving energy? Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search. Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Roberson et al, 2002 In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages. We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy. How can you help? We encourage you to set Blackle as your home page. This way every time you load your Internet browser you will save a little bit of energy. Remember every bit counts! You will also be reminded about the need to save energy each time you see the Blackle page load. Help us spread the word about Blackle by telling your friends and family to set it as their home page. If you have a blog then give us a mention. Or put the following text in your email signature: "Blackle.com - Saving energy one search at a time". Have a look at our energy saving tips page for ideas on steps you can take to save energy. There are a lot of great web sites about saving energy and being more environmentally friendly. They are full of great tips covering the little things that we can all do to make a difference today. Try Blackling "energy saving tips" or visit treehugger.com a great blog dedicated to environmental awareness. http://www.blackle.com/about/ Brilliant!

Depends on the license. I know that when I had a company and I used a program for my job I had a contract of licensing and manteinance for every systems, (AVID editing suites), but as private citizen that doesn't use software for working, is it the same? If there's no explicit exception for private users, yes. (Usually I don't have that "problem" because I almost exclusively use FOSS) Thanks.

Damn, I could have had bought ten copies of it, store in my safety for a while...and I wasted hours looking for investments in Stock Markets.
-
actually that looks like the core of the case the me; read the brief, the part about the unauthorised copies is on p. 15. This makes sense. It would be interesting to know if the laws about software copyrights are similar. Let consider this case: I am a private citizen that has two computers at home, I buy one copy of a program and install it on both computers, am I violating any laws?

Dude! I hope you aren't talking about all parties you attended in your life.

...or get a fair amount of beers, register to Organissimo Forum and start an argument with one of the members...it doesn't really matter the specific subject: baseball, C. Parker, Israel, free speech, hot dogs, turkey's recipe or Turkey' request to enter in UE...we are a strictly constitutional forum, we can argue with everybody on every subject without distinctions of sex, race, religion or sexual orientation

If you can pass on the Hoffman's pretenciuos attitude, (actually I count of Ron Rambach' friendship and trustness for it), you'll get it in here: http://www.musicmattersjazz.com/titles2.html

Sorry to hear this, though I always thought it. Musical business isn't different from any other business, and all the press, and medias in general, are blackmailed by insertionists. Basically the big companies own the press as long as the press survive on advertising, instead of readers. I am sure Brownie would have some deep insight about it. About tv broadcasting, my playground, it works like this. edit: and I just discovered that book's publishing is the same.

Yeah, enjoy it!
