Evidence? The thing is - and I know this will sound selfish and self-serving but so what - I'd rather not have people that sensitive even hanging around here. It's also a silly and incorrect statement: political commentary does not appear in every forum. Everyone is certainly more than welcome to hang out at the bar, toss some darts, and shoot the shit, but if you'e a teetotaler who doesn't like darts and bars... well maybe this isn't the place for you. In much the same way Jazz Corner isn't for me. I agree. People should just ignore these things. I read and post in the Steve Hoffman forum, for the information and technical opinions that are communicated, although I am aware that most of the posters there are politically very conservative. An internet forum is not a community of friends, but a community of people who share the same hobby. You don't need to be on the same wavelength with them in order to participate in the discussions. I think just the opposite: that an internet forum is became a community of friends that share the same hobby. At least this is the main reason because I don't want this forum gone. As Conrad said: where can you find a place where you can talk about Charlie Parker, Astronaut's Sex, Hillary and Obama and the best sauce for hot dog at the same time?

You should go to Germany. I loved travelling in Germany with my motorbike. No speed limit on the Highway, tasty wurst of every kind and good beer at the gas station. -

Jazzbo, for a quick lunch I usually have a slice of pizza or I go to a grocery and have a sandwich with fresh bread and some kind of ham, or salame, and cheese, mozzarella, ecc. A very common and tasty sandwich in Rome in autumn is Pizza e Fichi: a roman pizza filled with ham and fresh figs. Love it. -

Thanks, not tipical italian, we don't usually put pickels and chopped onion in today's sandwiches, but it sounds good. I am waiting for a friend for dinner and his train is in late, so I am really hungry, it's 8:45 Pm over here. -

What's an "italian" hoagie? -
Thanks. Now I have that song from the Team America soundtrack stuck in my head. Sorry, I didn't see the movie.

Agree completely. Making it subscription only turns it into a private club, and you know what they say about any club that would have me as a member. Personally, I think it would be disastrous. I'm hesitant about a monthly Paypal sub as well simply because the fees would eat up a good percentage of the funds. Would be much better to donate the "full" amount once or twice a year. Obviously a "voluntary" contribution is necessary, but I'm always skeptical about seeing a "star" or something by any donors name to acknowledge that they're somehow "better" than the rest. I like the idea of a simple fundraising bar that displays the goal and current contributions. On the other hand, maybe the band can send out some mp3s of new music to anyone who contributes a certain amount. In general, though, it's unfair to ask newbies or the only-occasional poster to cough up the funds needed to keep this place afloat for the 50-60 of us who post "a lot." I'm also not averse to some advertising. Whatever happens, keep moderation to a minimum. Heavy-handed gorting would kill this place. As for changing the board's name, heck, it might be easier if the band changed its name. Agree. edit: about the mp3 wich band are you referring for: TheArtistsFormerlyKnowAsOrganissimo?

From my point of view, freedom and democracy are not for free. For the very same reasons BNBB or SHF are/were/became unpleasant place in my view, they had/have a specific purpose: promoting products and therefore they are censoring critics or potentian harmful issues, like politics, sport, religion, ecc. Now, Jim has proved us that it can be possible to run a place in a different way. This is the house that Jim built, I don't find at all wrong by any means that we contribute to pay the bills and keep clean the place, since we love to spend here part of our time.

Agree, a part the silly thing about the mail . We all have the wrong perception that on the web everything is for free, well it's not. This thread showed that there are enough people ready to pay for the living of Big O. As Sen. Blutarsky pointed out back in his college days: Let's do it! Is it politic quoting Sen. Blutarsky? If so, please Jim move this thread to political forum, or should I ask to JSngry?

A few personal thoughts about the Forum. I am not a musician, nor a jazz expert, so my contributions might have been not fundamental on the "academic" side, but I loved to share with you more then my expertise about specific subjects. Some members, Jim included, shared much more then musical stuff, often very personal feelings and concerns and happiness and tragic things. That is what kept me in for such long time. All this makes the forum some sort of "family", not a cheap "cybercommunity" where people could carry virtual lifes under fake identity. Maybe I am wrong, but I feel I met "real" persons here. One of the reasons for it is that Jim, as moderator, allowed us to express ourselves in a light and skillfull way. As in a real family, fightings are unavoidable. As you all know for personal experience in your life you lost friend and wife/husband and relatives for fighting, often for good reasons, often for apparently stupid reasons, but so it goes. Now the strenght of the family is not to keep togheter all the members, by any means aka with strict rules, or "netiquette". A family is much more then the sum of its members. A family is a place where conflicts can be solved or not, but is a place where one can return and are welcomed. The fact that some left is sad, but unavoidable, unless Jim decide a strict code of behavior, that, from my point of view, would make this forum like any others out there. I wish to ask you a question: Do you really think that we would be so concerned about this forum, as it appeared in this thread, if we didn't feel some "love" for each others? If Brownie or Chuck or JSangry or Clem or Aloc or Conrad or Allen would have respected a strict code like in SH forum, without showing their wit, their political POV, in one word their "character", this would be another dull forum, though very informative, about jazz. A Google-like place where one can search a subject or ask a question, waiting for the answer of the experts. I mean that I wouldn't be here and I wouldn't learned a lot of things about your feeling and your countries and your family and I wouldn't be sympathetic in your personal life. When I was arguing with J.A.W. he said "left our personal life out of this", well, I think he got the point: most of us didn't left their personal life out of here. Obviously there are more reserved members, like in the real world, people are different, but we are like a family. Now we face a problem, the "father" Jim became a father and obviously his real family deserves him full time. The point is to transform a family in a community where Jim has not to bear the whole responsabilty of the forum. A Council of Moderators could be a way, if everybody recognize to them the "moral" authority for it. And changing name of the forum could be another way if the Band thinks the forum could harms its reputation to some extent. Sorry for The Sermon, J.Smith's one is better.

My God, for this thread I need a fix of humour: D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one. Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! Otter: Germans? Boon: Forget it, he's rolling. Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks hard] Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [runs out, alone; then returns] Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer... Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. Bluto: We're just the guys to do it. D-Day: Let's do it. Bluto: LET'S DO IT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2YWHBFx3Zg...feature=related And now back to the mourning and brotherly loves. edit: don't take it literally Jim, I fully understand your problems, I mean, you know...best wishes, whatever you'll decide. I just need a comic fix because I am going down.

Thanks, Aloc. -
i said that to myself over and over more than 40 years ago when things were really really rough for me with but a thread of hope and it seems to have worked. i pray it works for you, too. Thanks, you're a nice person and, if I were a believer of any religion, wich I am not, you'd be in my prayer. Well, you are in my heart whatever.

He's on Electronic Meditation. I passed on an original Ohr first pressing of it because of the price, 50 Euros, in retrospect I shouldn't, I love this record, on a cd reissue.
