  1. The record shops are pretty disappointing now, the best ones closed down in the last years. On the contrary the live gigs/concerts scene is good, specially in summer. Here's my favourites: http://www.auditorium.com/ the main concert complex, nice to visit even if there aren't concerts at all if you're interested in modern architecture, Renzo Piano's work. http://www.villaada.org/ A good place for 'world' music, situated in one of the city's parks, you can have a couscous, one beer (or two) while listening at music. http://www.villacelimontanajazz.com/ita/programma_it.html Same here, food, beer, but I prefer chilled white wine, some stupid roman ruines, and jazz concerts, lot's of young italian fellas in the program this year.
  2. THE CLASH - London Calling - CBS, UK first pressing.
  3. This one has 78 rpm speed, among other rocket science's things.
  4. BEATLES - Abbey Road - Apple, UK pressing.
  5. Thanks, it's definitely one of 'my cups of tea'.
  6. THE WHO - Who's Next? - Track original pressing. My preferred Who's record and one of best 'rock' records ever in my list.
  7. HORACE SILVER - Blowin' The Blues Away - BN, '47 west', mono DG.
  8. Yes, thanks! Coltrane's Niama a part. http://www.jazzonthetube.com/videos/john-coltrane/niama.html
  9. VAN MORRISON - Saint Dominic's Preview - WB
  10. VAN MORRISON - Veedom Fleece - WB
  11. CHARLES LLOYD QUARTET - Of Course Of Course - Columbia '360' stereo.
  12. that's one i read when i was 17 (one of only two or three conrad books i was able to finish) and i remember it as really really great - guess i should have a second look sometime... Conrad is one of the Greats, period. The fact about the 'true' Classics is that it's really difficult to see them in perspective. I mean that before Conrad, or Shakespeare or Dostojevskij or Kafka, the 'things' were different. They are the cornerstone, now they might sound 'obvious' , 'naive', even a 'cliche', but they build the 'obvious' and the 'cliche'.
  13. I think the title perfectly fits the content.
  14. Thanks Chuck, with the bucks I spare for the hypnotist I'll offer you a drink one of these days.
  15. I have my sound issues with that box. Jack the Bear is unlistenable. The first few discs in the box have a whistling sound near the end of each number-- apparently caused by noise-reduction. I'm sort of reluctant to mention this latter problem because I didn't notice it until someone on line pointed it out. Now of course it jumps out at me. Hope I'm not doing it to you. ( I didn't need anyone to bring the Jack the Bear sound issues to my attention.) I admit I just A/B compared the Blanton sessions' discs to the previous reissue, and I believed it was a big improvement at times. Anyway I want to ask Jim to delete these posts, and I'll go directly to an hypnotist. Maybe it's not too late.
  16. True, the bad habit to butcher old recordings in order to make sound them 'new' was pretty common. For instance the first good sounding Ellington came out with the big RCA box set, the previous cd reissues were definitely awful.
  17. RY COODER - Jazz - WB About big band music, I guess women'd like to dance it rather then listen to, but today's women aren't the same of Basie's time, (unfortunately?) Overheat? Never had such problem in all my life. I am a cool guy.
  18. CHARLES LLOYD - Nirvana - Columbia, '360 stereo sound'.
  19. That one should blow your speakers apart ! Yep! I had to put Ahmad Jamal's At The Blackhawk on after it, in order to calm my wife down.
  20. Just finished Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby'. I really loved it ages ago, I was sixteen I think, now it has a different taste. Still a good book, but not the masterpiece I thought at time.
  21. LALO SCHIFRIN - New Fantasy - Verve, stereo.
  22. An essential item - but nice to have it on the Amy Select on CD too. Saw a Fontana LP of this one quite recently. Now spinning:- Joe Harriott 'Free Form' (UK Jazzland Interdisk orig, mono) Porcy, Sidewinder, Teasing the Korean,....maybe you know that.. Wow, thanks!!
