  14. What about very early Kenneth Gorelick when he played tenor? After going to the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and getting to hear some live Chu Berry, this guy could play!!! Dying so young, what a loss to the jazz world.
  15. I remember exactly where I was. I was jamming with some friends when someone came into the basement and yelled "GUYS, MILES JUST DIED." We all paused for moment, and the bass player started to play the bass riff to "So What." We went on and jammed on that tune for over 2 hours. Yeah he left this world but his music was still here and always will be.
  16. I saw it. Pretty good. A lot of deification of Clifford Brown in it. (Not a bad thing.) IIRC His trumpet plays a major part in the plot. So Goldblum would be Sonny Rollins?
  17. Were there any other guitarist before Wes that made octaves a part of the everyday playing? I can't seem to come up with anyone. Since Wes everyone seems to include playing octaves. Wes started to play octaves to quiet the sound of his playing so the neighbors didn't complain. There is no one that does this technique as polished and playing fast runs as Wes Montgomery.
  18. Anyone know this artists? I am listening to a Jimmy Ponder recording. Harvey Schwartz is playing on this live recording but it doesn't list the instrument. I know it is not guitar or piano. He is either bass or drums, but I can't fine him listed anywhere 10 minutes later: I found who he is. The name is spelled different. Harvie Swartz
  19. Can someone move this to the right area. I didn't realize I started the topic in this section.
