What would you consider the most extraordinary piece of music in your wads of albums, CD's, and tapes? Something that you're sure almost no one else knows about. I stumbled across this person who followed around jazz artists in the 60’s and 70’s. He befriended just about all he told me about. They even let him record the shows. He has a stash of private recordings; in fact he gave me copies of some, which he had to have transferred from tape because they started to deteriorate. I have a Sonny Stitt one that just blows me away. I listen to that at least once a week. The music is brilliant despite the sound dropouts from its age.

For all the musicians on this board, how many standards or jazz tunes can you play without the sheet music? When I was playing, I learnt to play abot 300 within a 6 to 8 month time frame. Before that I could play them if the sheet music was in front of me.

How many of us, when the birthday of an artist that has left us, pull out the stash of CD by the artist and play them in remembrance? To whom do you do this for? My list is, 1) Wes Montgomery 2) John Coltrane 3) Sonny Stitt 4) Joe Henderson the 5th will be Jimmy Smith. I would do it for Bird, but WKCR does such a great job of this, that I just tune into them. I also caught last year's Coltrane memorial on WKCR. I will just most likely blast the radio for him from now on.

Just wondering for those that have the Verve discography, are there any unreleased session listed in there?
-
Those are my least listened to Wes albums. I know he was out to make money to feed his family at that time, by crossing over to reach a larger audience. I can dig Tiquila, Califorina Dreaming and the other albums around that time on Verve and A&M, but the magic was gone when he did Road Song. His playing didn't do much for me on those 2 albums. I think Wes was the greatest guitarist that ever picked up the instrument across all styles of music. Remember, it just about two days from his 80th birthday. I will be spinning his entire output to celebrate his life and music.

I spoke with someone at eBay and was told to forward the email to that very same address. I just wanted to make others aware just incase they answer the email. It looked so official.

There is a Ebay scam going around to anyone that has bought on eBay. The scam asked for you to update your personal information, including your credit card number. Failing to do so will remove your eBay account. It llok very offical. I called eBay was told there is a major scam happening. Yahoo talkes about here. http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid=34&in..._Internet_Fraud

Even though consumers are increasingly opting for healthier foods these days, some people still prefer good ol' fatty standards such as burgers, cheese, french fries, and ice cream. And as long as customers want those things, some eateries will attempt to attract their business by offering larger portions of them than the next guy. One extreme in the big burger business is represented by Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, which offers several varieties of "large" for the extreme burger enthusiast: a 2-pound Challenger, a 3-pound Baby Boy, and, as displayed in the pictures shown above, a 6-pound Ye Olde 96er (so named because it contains 96 ounces of meat). As advertised on the pub's web site, a 96er sells for $23.95 and includes the following fixings and condiments: Two whole tomatoes A half-head of lettuce 12 slices of American cheese A full cup of peppers Two entire onions A river of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard Denny's (not to be confused with the national chain restaurants of the same name) offers prizes for customers who can completely consume one of their big burgers within three hours: a T-shirt, certificate, and 50% discount for anyone who finishes a Challenger (2 lb. burger) within an hour; a T-shirt, certificate, and 100% discount for anyone who can polish off a Baby Boy (3 lb. burger) in 90 minutes or less; and something special for anyone who manages the unthinkable and puts away a whole 96er (6 lb. burger) in under three hours. Update: In January 2005, a 100-pound woman became the first person to win the Denny's Beer Barrel Pub challenge when 19-year-old Kate Stelnick of Princeton, New Jersey, downed a six-pound Denny's "96er" hamburger and five pounds of fixins' in 2 hours and 54 minutes, just shy of the three-hour time limit. For her trouble, Ms. Stelnick got a special certificate, a T-shirt, and other prizes, as well as having her tab for the $23.95 burger picked up by the house. This woman did. The only person who has.

Was this ever released under a different title? Has it ever been issued on CD? It's the only Art Blakey Blue Note I don't have.

Thanks, this is a great site.
