What numbers did your set(s) get?
Hardbopjazz replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Then there must be a mistake somehow. The set number are hand written, so the human error factor does exist. -
Is the tour now at the point where the riders will start climbing? I think the standings will change very soon. How many stages are climbing the mountains? Does anyone know?

Okay, that explains it. -
When I ordered the Larry Young set back in 1996 or 97, I ordered it with a friend. His set was a good 300 numbers higher then mine. I don't think there was a rush on the set, but can't fingure out why there was a big gap in the numbering. Here are my numbers. Larry Young- is #2009 Stanley Turrentine is #1418 Donald Byrd is #995 Joe Pass is #1338 JJ Johnson is 4950 Blue Mitchell is #3744 Lou Donaldson is #781 Andrew Hill is #3094 Jackie McLean- Don't know, found it a second hand store. Just the dics. Paid $40. Sonny Stitt and Elvin Jones- Just orded last night, don't know yet.

Suitcase Yields Possible Beatles Trove 48 minutes ago LONDON - All you need is luck. A vacationer who purchased a suitcase at an Australian flea market found a trove of Beatles memorabilia inside, including photos, concert programs and unreleased recordings, The Times newspaper reported Tuesday. While the materials have yet to be authenticated, some experts believe the collection is the lost "Mal Evans archive," originally belonging to the Beatles' roadie and sound recordist. Evans was killed by police in Los Angeles in 1976 after he had brandished a fake gun. The contents of the suitcase were lost during the police investigation, The Times said. Fraser Claughton, 41, from Tinkerton, England, found the suitcase in a small town outside of Melbourne, The Times said. Realizing the suitcase was not empty, he bought it for about $36. "It's like finding the end of the rainbow in Australia," The Times quoted Claughton as saying. "I spotted one tatty old suitcase, which frankly I wouldn't have given house room, but when I picked it up there was something in it." The 4 1/2 hour reel-to-reel tape recording includes John Lennon and Paul McCartney (news) experimenting with alternative versions of some previously unrecorded tracks. The collection also includes previously unknown versions of new recordings of "We Can Work It Out" and "Cry Baby Cry." The tapes, labeled "Abbey Road... not for release," will be evaluated by the Beatles' record label, Apple, and examined by experts to determine their origin and authenticity. "With the exception of (two tracks) it sounds very exciting indeed," memorabilia consultant and Beatles specialist Peter Doggett told The Times. A spokeswoman for Christie's said while the auction house has had no contact with the collection as of yet, there is "Beatles memorabilia in every pop memorabilia sale — it's very popular." In 1998, a notebook compiled by Evans, containing draft lyrics for "Hey Jude" and "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," sold for $185,000 at a London auction. A year earlier, McCartney obtained an injunction to prevent Evans' widow from selling a scrap of paper with the original lyrics to "With a Little Help From My Friends."

It is a good session regardless who's it under. Duke Pearson was so wonderful on Blue Note sessions.

Blakey's '65 Limelight sides w/Gilmore, Morgan
Hardbopjazz replied to ghost of miles's topic in Re-issues
it's in the LPR series: what once was is what you get. So no restoration of solos or other missing pieces of the puzzle. Drat. Excuse my French, by why the fuck release this on CD, if you're not going to restore the edited solos??? I mean, that's the only way a release like this has any serious merit (or at least as much merit it's capable of). I sure the thing would sell better if people had the chance to hear more solos from Gilmore. But released with all those edits, I'm sure I'm just as likely to take a pass at it, as I would buy it. Release it in it's full form, and I'm seriously WAY MORE interested in hearing this thing. WTF are they thinking???? I bought this not knowing they edited the solos. Would have like to have the full monty. -
I was the spelling bee champ in 75'. Thing was, only 2 other students in the contest.

He was a great player. Miss him, Live in NJ, my firend would go down and jam with him back in the mid 90's. He had stopped playing for a while. He told my friend he didn't anyone listened to him anymore.

I knew I heard it. Have to see if I have this recording. Thanks.

Is it a female or shemale?

So you look for "man hands". -
I had an Internet radio station on today and heard a Lou Armstrong number. Towards the end of the tune, in his solo, he basically plays the theme, which Dizzy would write years later, and we come to know as Salt Peanuts. I wish I had found out what tune Armstrong played. Would any here know what tune I am referring to? I pretty sure Dizzy was listening to this and thought, "hum," and wrote salt peanuts right after this. Armstrong was playing bop and didn't even know it.

Anyone have this? Saw it yesterday. Most likely going to pick it up today. Is it any good?
