  1. Then let's just spin his music. The best way to remember him.
  2. We should all not post anything for about five minutes at a certain time today out of respect for Elvin. How about 12 PM EST? You can figure out your time zone.

Streaming some of his music out of WKCR.ORG

    Elvin is dead

This time it is true. I had made phone reservations for his Blue Note shows. I gave my email when I made the reservations. I was emailed this morning saying the shows are off. No other information given. They still have the shows listed on their site. R.I.P Elvin. Hope you're playing with Trane, Eric Dolphy and Jimmy Garrison as we talk about you.
  5. My list would be too long. I crank everything up loud when I'm at home and have my earphones on.
  6. I wonder how many users signed up at this fourm just to spam?
  7. I never tried spam. Looks too much like dog food.
  8. True. That's how I first started listen to Benson and Washington JR from all those old CTI recordings.
  9. Another one- Nez. I don't understand the words but she is pretty hot. Kind of techno music.
  10. Sad ti hear this. R.I.P. Tony
  11. Great, I have this one.
  12. Here are a couple links to their catalog.LINK LINK Wow, nice list of stuff.
  13. Saw the film, but remember hearing them.
  14. Strange News - AP I would make a mad dash for the door. Hotel Charges $1,000 for Omelet Mon May 17,11:56 AM ET Add Strange News - AP to My Yahoo! NEW YORK - It's not made of gold — just eggs, lobster, caviar and a few trimmings. But an omelet on the menu of a swanky Manhattan hotel will set you back $1,000, plus tip. "I couldn't believe it was the price when I first saw '1,000' on the menu. I thought it was the calorie count," Virginia Marnell, a customer at Norma's restaurant in Le Parker Meridien hotel on West 57th Street, told the Daily News for Monday editions. The omelet, which debuted May 5 and is billed as the "Zillion Dollar Frittata," has six eggs, a lobster and — here's the kicker — 10 ounces of sevruga caviar. The restaurant pays $65 an ounce for the caviar, according to Norma's general manager, Steven Pipes. "Since we knew it was going to be a very expensive dish, we decided to have some fun with it," Pipes told the News. "It's not just a gimmick, though. It tastes good." Beside the omelet's entry in the menu is the following message: "Norma dares you to expense this." No one has ordered it yet. A "budget" version of the omelet, containing only one ounce of caviar, sells for $100.
  15. I have to say I agree with you on this. There are many sessions sitting on the shelves somewhere that have no chance of being reissued. Maybe one of these labels will see a market for these sessions. But, they will have to somehow get a copy of these recordings in order to produce CD's from. I wouldn't think the companies that have these recordings would let them out for others to reissue.
  16. My goal is to make my wife love jazz as much as I do. That would be like finding peace in the middle east. Hard, but impossible. She did like Jimmy Smith when we saw him live. Let's playn some of his albums without any complaints.
  17. I've seen the Wynton Kelly Blue Note sessions for sale on line at Tower. I guess this is the same label. It doesn't say.
  18. The Jazz Factory must be having a field day with recordings over 50 years. This was the only one by them that I've seen. Are there others? If so, what ones?
  19. I saw this very CD at Tower Records. This is what made me post this question.
  20. What exactly does this mean? Does Horace Silver still get his royalties?
  21. Has the stature of limitations run out on these Blue Note recordings of Horace Silver that they are now being put out by the Jazz Factory label?
  22. I've been spinning all those Silveto releases by Horace Silver. The oddist one is "Guides for Growing up" with Bill Cosby.
  23. Thanks for the link.
  24. How many musicians here have used them? What do you think of them? When I was playing and didn't have a chance to play with live musicians I used them.
