  1. Any of the other guitar players here play any guitars with floating bridges? This use to be a problem for me. Whenever I would change strings, the bridge would slip and I would need to calibrate the bastard.
  2. Of all the arch top guitars I ever owned, my Guold X-500 had the most beautiful sound. I sold it 10 years ago when I hung up player for a living. Mine was blonde. If you're ever in the market for a arch top, this is the one to get.
  3. There's a guitar store in George or Tennessee I believe that just sells left handed guitars. Does anyone know the name of that place?
  4. Thanks for the info Dan. BTW, good look with your new home.
  5. Doesn’t former Gibson employee’s make Heritage guitars? Heritage has some nice sounding arch top guitars. And for myself, being a lefty, they make more then just one left-handed model. What about Ibanez guitars? Joe Pass played them, and so does George Benson. Is there anyone on this board playing on an Ibanez arch top guitar?
  6. Does anyone know if he is still performing, or has he hung up the sax?
  7. Welcome JAZZZEALOT!. It's nice to have another woman on the board.
  8. I've seen some of the greats. Here's the ones I've seen so far. Count Basie Horace Silver Lou Donaldson Joe Henderson McCoy Tyner Jimmy Smith Jim Hall Bobby Hutcherson Herbie Hancock Jon Hendricks and Annie Ross Sonny Rollins Phil Woods Dr. Lonnie Smith Ray Barretto Tito Puente Left to See Jackie McLean James Moody Kenny Burrell Donald Byrd Freddie Hubbard Heath Brothers Hank Jones Elvin Jones Ron Carter Curtis Fuller Dave Brubeck Anyone on the board around to have seen Charlie Parker?
  9. I saw the Count Basie big band in 82.
  10. I have to pick the model that is on Gene Ammons' Angel Eyes for prettiest and the model on the cover of Charles Erland’s Whip appeal for sexiest.
  11. BTW BERIGAN, can you tell us the name of the girl in you avatar? I think I have worked with her at one time.
  12. I saw Bobby with McCoy Tyner in December. He was at the top of his game. Hopping all around when the other guys were soloing.
  13. Any session you're waiting for to be re-issued?
  14. I think Horace Silver is one of the greatest jazz performers and composers of all time. But, I find it hard to dig his stuff with vocals. Anyone else feel the same way?
  15. I've been listening to some Jack McDuff sessions, and I am really enjoying the tenor player on these dates. Red Holloway. Nice clean sound to his playing. I thought I get the word out on him in case you are not aware of his playing. Worth a listen and more. Any other artists that don't get their fair share? I want to pick up on someone I might not be aware of.
  16. I've tried to Jackie McLean 3 times in the past. Each time he has canceled. Hopefully his health is better. Plus the fact that the weather will be warmer maybe he'll play the shows.
  17. What set these two great bands apart were the vocalists. Both band had great soloists throughout their years, but Basie always had great vocalists in his band. Joe Williams, Billy Eckstine, Jimmy Rushing and Sarah Vaughan, just to name some. Any great vocalists come out of Ellington’s band?
  18. Does a tune become a standard after it has been recorded by many different artists, or is there a different formula for a tune becoming a standard?
  19. Welcome Paco.
  20. I agree 100%. But I happen to have both versions of Green Streets and I can hear a difference. I was pulled towards the RVG version.
  21. This weekend I was watching the Blues Brothers on cable. Cab Calloway Preformed is signature song, “Minnie the Moocher”. Now do you feel Calloway was more of a showman or a jazz performer? I not that fluent with his music other then a handful of tunes I've heard.
  22. I was playing Grant Greens' Green Streets, both the Conn and the RVG versions. I have to say, the RVG is so much better in my mind. This got me wondering, which engineer do others prefer? I find a warmer sound with the RVG's, especially the JRVG's.
  23. See Horace Silver at the end of April. He hardly tours and plays live anymore. He's a the Blue Note.
  24. I've used a Sony Mini-disc. You can find them on E-bay. In fact the one I bought is also great for recording live music. I've done it at 2 recent shows. If this is the route you go, MZ-R*
