  1. Can we search back to day one. I've only been here since Jan of 2004. How long has this board been around?
  2. With the MZ-r*, you can record live jazz shows. Not that I have ever done this.
  3. I wonder if you misunderstood him. I've never heard of any of the modern archtop luthiers using rosewood for any body parts (of course it's long been used for fingerboards and bridges). Maybe he was talking about flattops (as Zizala suggested). If he was actually talking about archtops, that would be pretty unusual. The great Jimmy D'Aquisto (legendary apprentice of John D'Angelico) once stated that rosewood "does not belong anywhere on a guitar"... No, he's not using rosewood today, but was using it years ago. Maybe he made a mistake and ment something else.
  4. I've been doing it for years. It makes the day go by faster and more fun, especially when surrounded by a cubical.
  5. Can it be oneself, or does it have to be someone other then that?
  6. Al, if you plan to Horace Silver, either call the Blue Note to hold seats for you. To get good seats, get their by 7 PM for the 8 PM show. 9 for the 10 PM show. I would even consider ording tickets on line. He is going to sell out all shows.
  7. This is all you need to get around the city. http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm
  8. Just stay away from those double decker tour buses. They steel your money and are not that safe.
  9. On Saturday May First Jimmy Heath will be conducting a class at the Blue Note. It's at 2PM.
  10. Juinor Cook and Blue Mitchell
  11. Wayne is still on the top of his game. Should be a great show.
  12. Adam, maybe you can ask Horace is he would like to join this board. Seriously, I would really enjoy having one of the GIANTS chatting with us. He could tell us stories. Isn't Horace one of the last jazz musicians from that great photo, “One day in Harlem”? I think Sonny Rollins and Marian McPartland are the other two.
  13. Thanks for the info. I was just repeating what a guitar maker at the guitar show said. He made one of a kind arch top guitars starting at 4500 and up. Couldn't play any, all right handed.
  14. It's the wood. Brazilian rosewood is the best. But there isn't enough of these adult trees around to make guitars with. I was told this recently. I had gone to a guitar show in NY. Brazilian rosewood makes for the best tone.
  15. Adam, did Horace mention anything about his new album? It's supposed to come out this month from what I read.
  16. He's on the NRA forum.
  17. How do you sign up to pick the album of the week?
  18. Wow, a real celebrity on the board. I've seen most... well some of your movies. I especially like the one with the chimp. What was that one called? When someone gets banned, he should be able to still post, but be forced to have "I'm Banned" stuck to im. It will be sort of like the scarlet letter.
  19. I wonder what it was that got Diz fired?
  20. Here's all the jazz greats playing in NYC in April Sam Rivers- April Freddie Hubbard- April Curtis Fuller- April McCoy Tyner- April Horace Silver- April Roy Haynes- April Jim Hall- April George Coleman- April Benny Golson- April Ray Baretto- April Dr. Lonnie Smith- April
  21. I knew this subject could not have gone this long without it be touched upon before.
  22. Is this true? I'll have to find some CD's to buy regardless wheaher I want them or not.
  23. Now through April 15, 25% off Blue Note CD's. Free shipping with any order over $20. Not bad. I placed an order last week. If only I would have known.
  24. Is this the place you're thinking of? http://www.southpaw.net/ Thanks AfricaBrass. That's the place.
