  1. I'm hoping to get there, but I'm not 100% yet. And, yeah, the tickets are pricey, but probably are bunch are sold through subscriptions. It's also in the smaller of the two main halls at the center (several hundred seats versus many hundreds), which has pretty good sound. (The larger hall may sound good for an orchestra, but stinks for an acoustic jazz group.)
  2. Nope, it's tough for me to get out on a Monday night. Anyone see the Jarman?
  3. Von Freeman Trio — Chicago tenor saxophonist Freeman is joined by special guest, drummer Mickey Roker — The Kimmel Center, Perelman Theater, Broad & Spruce Sts, Philadelphia Oct 29 (Sat) — 7:30 pm — $41/36
  4. I plan to be at this one: International House Philadelphia and Ars Nova Workshop present: Friday, November 4, 2005 ANTHONY BRAXTON SEXTET with Anthony Braxton, reeds Taylor Ho Bynum, trumpet Jay Rozen, tuba Jessica Pavone, violin Chris Dahlgren, bass Aaron Siegel, drums Composer and saxophonist Anthony Braxton formed the Creative Construction Company (with violinist Leroy Jenkins and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith) in the mid-60s before recording the seminal For Alto (Delmark Records), the first-ever recording for solo saxophone. Subsequent collaborations included ‘Circle’ with Chick Corea and Dave Holland, Italian free improvisation group Musica Elettronica Viva, and in duo with guitarist Derek Bailey, drummer Max Roach, and pianist Hank Jones. His quartet with pianist Marilyn Crispell, bassist Mark Dresser, and drummer Gerry Hemingway during the 80s and 90s is often considered Braxton’s most remarkable ensemble. His three decades of recordings is kaleidoscopic and prolific, and has been met with critical praise including prestigious awards. Braxton is a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship and a tenured professor at Wesleyan University. 5. I'm afraid I didn't get there either. In Walt Dickerson news, I was able to contact Dmitry. He'll try to contact Walt and will get back to me.

  11. Alan, thx for the info. I didn't know about the Kimmel center gig by Jamal. I'm way out of circulation at the moment, due to family needs. If you think of it, drop me an email if you see Jamal will be playing live again in the area. ← Your wish is my command. 16. Michael Wex - Born to Kvetch: Yiddish Language and Culture in All Its Moods (St Martin's Press)
  17. Thanks, Philly guys. Be good to get together before or after a show or elsewhen.
  18. I thought I mentioned Walt to Mark a while ago, glad to hear Mark's interested now. He'd be perfect for the series at Houston Hall at Penn. Now I just have to remember where his contact information is...
  19. The Eddie Condon and Edmund Hall are now pre-listed on CD Universe as well.
  20. I don't think I know all of them. One requirement was a non-smoking environment, which eliminates him from most of the clubs. (Unless and until a smoking ban is enacted in Philly.) He may have wanted vibes provided. I don't know his monetary requirement. I think I pased his name along to a booker who does some more avant garde things, but don't think anything developed. Maybe I'll try to ask some of the other musicians in his area for ideas.
  21. I notice that CD Universe has it for $16.98. ← Thanks. Great news that this is back out, even though it might have been better to reissue the CD on its own as well. Even better news that CD Universe has it, since I think I need to order a few more things from them to get my karma back in balance (I got the Cellar Door at the low price). ← I hope that your karma isn't the source of the delay in the Cellar Door set. (If it is, you better make a large order!)
  22. Did I mention that when they rebuilt my computer after a disk problem, I lost all my email? But I'm just glad that I don't have a dog or a pickup truck. If I did, the dog would die and the truck would break down. And then I'd be in a country song.
  23. Thanks, guys!
  24. I notice that CD Universe has it for $16.98.
