This is fantastic news! I've been hoping for the live Vanguard material to come out on CD for a long time. " Stepping Stones: Live at the Village Vanguard" is currently due out on Columbia/Legacy on 7/26.

I found an answer to my own question: "Eugene the Jeep" is a character that E.C. Segar added to Thimble Theatre on 3/3/1936. Could Hodges's nickname been derived from the Popeye character?

Wasn't Jeep also originally character in Thimble Theater (AKA "Popeye") ?

Wow, I'm shocked as well. Didn't realize that NHØP was only 58 -- and started playing professionally at 14! I'll have to put on some of his music tonight... RIP
