I come here because they don't kick you out after the first set.

Doesn't look like it's been issued on CD. "This record was released in 1970s in limited circulation only for members of PSJ records club." http://www.stanko.polishjazz.com/disks/fishface.htm

Interesting writer. Haven't read this one, but read "The Deptford Trilogy" (Fifth Business/The Manticore/World of Wonders) a few years ago. Found a paperback of "The Salterton Trilogy" for 50 cents a few months ago, but haven't gotten to it yet. Anyone else read any of these?

I may being too sensitive, but I doubt I'd ask him this question, as Elvin was on the last 3 or 4. ← I think this is safe to ask, since the answer is "yes." Recorded June 4 & 5, 2004, Avatar Studios, NYC: The Great Jazz Trio – S'Wonderful (Columbia/Eighty-Eights) June 28, 2005 — Hank Jones (piano), with John Patitucci (bass) & Jack DeJohnette (drums)

1981/02/20 or 1981/02/21? check here I was at this show: 1983/03/12 - McCarter Theatre, PRINCETON, NJ, USA (except it was across campus at Alexander Hall) An amazing experience. ← Definitely amazing. Probably the 2/21/1981 show. (By coincidence, a couple weeks ago, I ran across a copy of some short-lived Philly music fanzine that had a review of the show. By me. Completely forgot.)

I still remember an excellent Frippertronics concert I saw. (Probably in 1981. 2nd floor of Houston Hall at Penn?)

It does look like it's probably the same as the just released Way Back When: John Surman – Way Back When (Cuneiform) May — previously unreleased album recorded 10/7/69 — John Surman (baritone and soprano saxes), John Taylor (electric piano), Brian Odgers (electric bass), John Marshall (drums) plus guest Mike Osborne (alto sax) on 'side one'
-
Masada: John Zorn (alto saxophone); Dave Douglas (trumpet); Greg Cohen (bass); Joey Baron (drums)

I know Holland did some studio work in the early 1970s -- he's on Bonnie Raitt's second album "Give It Up" (1972, produced by Michael Cuscuna!) and on Maria Muldaur's self-titled debut from 1974. But he also has some connection to the bluegrass/folk players you mentioned. Holland plays on John Hartford's "Morning Bugle" from 1972, which also featured guitarist Norman Blake and was produced by John Simon (who produced The Band's first two albums). And Holland also plays on "Vassar Clements/John Hartford/Dave Holland" (1988) and on Vassar Clements's "Once in a While" (along w/ John Abercrombie & Jimmy Cobb!).

Mike, Yes, it does get confusing! I think that Sunnyside is acting as the distributor for Sue Mingus Music. I believe that they've done the same for same other labels, including Dave Holland's new Dare2 label. Sunnyside has also issued quite a bit of music from Universal France. (Probably more than Verve has lately!) They say "licensed from Universal Music SAS France." In here notes on the "I Am Three" CD, Sue mentions plans to release Live at Ronnie Scott's Rep. band recording and also the long-pending Monterey/UCLA 1965 recording and mentions a Cornell concert with Eric Dolphy.
-
Well, looking closer, I see that the CD is produced by Sue Mingus, has liner notes by Sue Mingus, and is issued on the "Sue Mingus Music" label and licensed to Sunnyside and to Universal Music France. The pieces were recorded in the Fall of 2004. Three of the arrangements are by John Stubblefield. Although he was too sick to play on the album, he was able to get out of the hospital in order to conduct.

I'm just annoyed that there's no break on shipping charges if you order more than one item from the same dealer...

Anyone seen the EMI CD/DVD titles by Du Pre (Brahms), Rostropovich (Bach Cello Suites), Stokowski (Bach) and Von Karajan (Sibeluis) ? The DuPre and Stokowski titles are $5.99.

Yes, I heard about it a few weeks ago. Ars Nova & I House received a nice grant to fund the concerts. I don't think they have the exact lineups set. I'm really hoping they can get Braxton! [Anyone else seeing Bjorkenheim next Wednesday?]

The new Clean Feed one's pretty nice, if a bit of a strange concept. "Plaza De Toros" -- the story of a bull fight...
-
Oh, and by the way, what do you teach?

You can get an idea of jazz happenings here: phillyjazz.Jazzmatazz.info. (Listings from earlier in the year can be found here.) I could probably also answer questions about the various venues. (And I live in Mount Airy neighborhood in Philly.)
