  1. Great news for Giants fans: Zito actually won a game and [this is the best part] his contract ends on Sunday! Woo-hoo!
  2. Conservative...how about Fats Navarro? Maybe Paul Chambers? Paul Desmond?
  3. I think they're up to the task. The Colts looked real good on Sunday. The Niners, well, with two top receivers out for the season and now one of their best LBs, it will be a rough road ahead. The resurgent Seahawks look to be the NFC West favorite right now. Guess the college game will be my sporting distraction this season. Ugh.
  4. BTW...I had tickets for Sunday's Giants game. I was going to burn a discretionary leave day on Monday so I wouldn't have to drive all night to get home. Our district supervisor trumped that by telling me I had to be at a district office meeting for us Lead Teachers. Must be a Dodgers fan.
  5. It can be done! Yeah, this was a big shocker for me because I figured with how they played last season they would just pick up where they left off. I really thought they'd be the team to beat in the NL East.
  6. Looks like Aldon Smith is in rehab for a great, long while. Well...there goes the season.
  7. Does this mean a possible second Big John Patton tribute CD in the offing? If so, I'm in!
  8. Against Seattle in Seattle is understandable. Against Indy, not so much. But hey, it's a good thing they got rid of Alex Smith, right? You bet. Alex Smith is a statue in the pocket and panics on 3rd and long. He had eight years to prove himself and got benched in favor of Kaepernick who actually has an arm and can run and shoot. Niners' biggest problem is tackling and piss poor play calling. OC Greg Roman is an idiot. Smith's Chiefs have beaten two tomato cans and one pretender [Dallas]. Let's see what he can do against the likes of the Colts or Broncos. Besides, it's a three game season. The Niners went 11-5 last year [even after three straight losses with Smith at the helm] and went to the Super Bowl. The refs lost that game for the Niners with that dumbass non-call on some obvious holding in the end zone. Kaepernick is legit.
  9. Mission accomplished..... Go Tribe!
  10. Giants save face: 2-1 over the Yankees.
  11. Niners are just stinking up the league right now. What miserable performance last week vs. Seattle and today vs. Indianapolis.
  12. On six big contracts: Zito, Pence, Cain, Lincecum, Bumgarner and Posey. Only Pence was the new pick-up.
  13. Personally, I think A-Rod is getting the Ryan Braun wink-and-a-nod treatment from the Commissioner's office. Why else, one might posit, is it taking this long to come to a final decision?
  14. I would same the same for the word "Liberal".
  15. I think we have discovered the reason why A-Rod is still playing: http://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/A-Rod-makes-slam-history-4831786.php He passed Lou Gehrig with that Grand Slam.
  16. Exactly. Why he was there to hit that grand slam is beyond me. If this was Barry Bonds he'd be vilified and booted from the league by now. Oh wait. That already happened. I guess A-Rod is above all that because he plays for the vaunted Yankees.
  17. Top ten biggest trade deals: http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/2012-articles/august/the-ten-biggest-trades-in-mlb-history.html Looks like the Giants weren't involved in any of them. Funny, the Giants aren't ranked high in this category either. Ten highest spending teams: http://www.examiner.com/article/ten-highest-spending-teams-major-league-baseball-2013 $18 million will go away with Zito. So, really, it's more like $119 million. That would be near the bottom on this list and pretty average overall.
  18. Dodgers win the West but act as classless as it comes with an in-your-face celebration. Wow. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/9695662/arizona-diamondbacks-take-exception-los-angeles-dodgers-partying-pool
  19. I have a problem with buying the WS. Where I get that MLB is a business, it simply isn't fair play for a team with deep pockets to out spend the rest of the league for talent. At that point, it becomes a financial venture not a sport.
  20. So, um...the Brownies trade their stud muffin 1st round RB pick to the freaking Colts? And right before they face the Niners? What the hell is that all about?
  21. ROTFLMAO! I laughed for ten minutes when I saw this! :-D
  22. Sunday Night Football game: Niners vs. Seahawks. GO Niners!
  23. Giants are currently in 3rd place. Which team was that...the Marlins? Do you know who the Marlins had to beat to get to the WS? The Giants; both times.
  24. I think Pence is a keeper
