OK, so...how many more years do we Giants fans have to suffer with Barry Zito? $18 MILLION dollars and to do what...throw batting practice? Geez! Grrrr

umpire ejects organist
Tim McG replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
As a stadium announcer I almost got tossed by the umpire because of a scoreboard malfunction. He had pointed to the booth and gave me the heave-ho. I guess he figured I was trying to show him up on the ball-strike count. There was often a delay in the signal from the controls to the scoreboard, but it was sporadic or didn't register at all. Thankfully, the coach talked him out of it. True story. -
Werth has done very little of value for the Nats. I know and that's what surprises me about the Nats. It wasn't all that long ago the Nats/Expos were bottom feeders. Now, they have a legit shot at the WS, IMHO. Uh...guess it's back? Teams do that, just to mess with your head.(And isn't that one of the greatest gifts of baseball? No way to really get a handle on it, to guess the future?) When the braves are losing, they look like the worst team in baseball. Start of the season, the braves picked up Chad Durbin, who had been released by the Nats. Seemed like a typical move by a team with tight purse strings. Cannot tell you how many times he gave up runs early on. Every outing in April it seemed. Some were unearned, but he was beyond a joke. Seemed to just be killing the team. One braves fan said he would rather see Deanna Durbin on the mound! hitters were batting .378 against him in April. Then .132 in May....now, most inherited runners don't score when he toes the rubber. Never would have guessed. People thought Michael Bourn was not really into being a brave early on this year, no life in him, it seemed. After a few weeks though, he seemed the most fired up player on the team. But, when they leave 10 runners on, can't advance guys, and lose 5-1 even though they had 10-12 hits....worst team in baseball! Then the Giants are the Zen Masters of messing with fans' heads...and it can stop anytime now. Grrr

What's the deal with the Nationals this year? I mean, even with Werth on the DL, they're still tearing up the NL.

Pence was NOT leading the Phillies in hitting w/ his .271 avg. The Phillies leading hitter is Carlos Ruiz at .342. Pence has some pop in his bat w/ 17 homers. Maybe it will work out for the Giants. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. He certainly played better last season after his trade to the Phillies. But... there are a lot of holes in his game. A good player but not worth the money he's owed. Right-hand power just does not happen at AT&T Park, you have to hit a monster blast to get it out in left field, especially at night, and I can't remember too many being hit out there for this year. So I do not expect big things from Pence in the power department. Well, it's 339 down the LF line. Not all that far to go for a HR. TBH, at night a lot depends on the wind, if there is fog and the pitcher [righty vs righty for example]. Over the years, I've seen a lot of pitches go over the corner wall [hit by the likes of Aubrey Huff and Freddy Sanchez] by guys who aren't power hitters at all. So, I think we wait and see.

The website may have had it wrong, but this is what it said: "Pence led the Phillies in hits (108), homers, RBIs, runs scored (59), total bases (178) and walks (37)". source: Pence led Phillies

He can hit and was leading the Phils in that category. So we see if he can keep it going with the Giants. Now, with Hector Sanchez coming off the DL and Sandoval not far behind, things could be looking up! I think that's a good pick-up for your guys, Jim. Mostly, I'm glad Texas got him and not the Dodgers

I dunno. I can't really fault Bochy. I mean, Schierholtz has always been spotty at the plate and Belt, well...a great 1Ber who can't hit. Hunter Pence, however, does and can hit and that is what the Giants need right now out of their line-up.

Hunter Pence to the Giants: Pence for Schierholtz, catching prospect and a minor league pitcher Nice to get Pence but I'm sorry to see Schierholtz go.

Self-deprecating Jewish Humor: Ill Effects?

I absolutely agree with you. Why more Christians don't get on board with that concept is beyond me. You simply cannot shove religion down somebody's throat...it has to be a personal choice. Well put. An atheist simply cannot be a Jewish believer. i don't know what you wanted us to understand when you replied to Pete C. "An atheist simply cannot be a Jewish believer." did you think he wasn't aware that the term 'atheist' means a person who thinks there's no God? 'cuz i assume he does know that. and i also assume that you know he knows that. what are you saying exactly? do you know? i'd like to know... not interested, eh? not surprised... Pete knew what I meant and that is enough for me. -

Nut burgers come in all stripes, Fasstrack. It would be more than a little bit unreasonable to think all Christians are those "turn or burn", Koran hating, mega church, tea party yutzes. The vast majority are not from the looney right and actualy follow the teachings found in the New Testament. ...and count yourself among them. Thanks, Pete...I think. -
OK. Could somebody explain to me the Scutaro pick-up by the Giants? A fair to middle-of-the road IFer who has promptly launched into a three game hitting slump does not help the team at all. I mean, I get that renting Hanley Ramirez would have be a disaster, but Scutaro...really? Grrr

Well, not exactly. Christians want everybody to be saved but there are legions of those among us who also accept that a belief in God [Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc] is sufficient. After all, the goal is to get to Heaven [defined by various Christian groups in multiple ways], yes? To those of us enlightened believers, it really doesn't much matter how a person gets there as long as they do. Hence, the proof is in the existence of the many and various Christian faiths. The goal is the same, but how to get there varies from one faith to another. I'm plenty OK with that. -
I just hope the Mets are as accomodating for the Giants as they have been for the rest of the league. Grienke took the loss, but I think he is a very good aquisition for the Angels. I'd like to meet him. Must be a real stand up guy.

Which would explain the three game shut-out sweep, in LA, against those same Dodgers. Look, Mike...maybe it's best we don't engage each other. I really tire of the statistical nonsense. The win column is all that matters. See also: 2010 World Series

Apparently, I was wrong. Dodgers did what they had to do to tie the Giants atop the NL West. Grrrr

Mine would be the second plane, which I can't get past apparently; I still have to check the news immediately before leaving home, just in case, and the moon landing, which I refuse to get past. Nah. I just couldn't settle on only two. The 1969 moon landing would have to be up there for me, as well.

Just noticed the added word "believer," which was not my word. Perhaps Goodspeak could make commercials for the Romney campaign. Not Mormon. Sorry. -

Um. We've already been through this, Pete. An atheist simply cannot be a Jewish believer. However, in America, one can claim anything he/she wants to be as long as it's legal. God Bless dualism. -

From Get Smart to any of the Mel Brooks films, Jewish humor [or Deli humor as I refer to it] has been some of the funniest stuff I have EVER seen. Bar none. -
Micheal Phelps gets nailed for a false start.

Nice to see Aubrey Huff back in the line-up. I figure the Giants will be plenty motivated to beat LA on Sunday.
