A $20 Million dollar per year contract happened to Lincecum. Zito got inside his head: Get the big money, screw the job and the fans. It would appear he is more interested in being the image rather than the pitcher he once was. To quote John Lennon on Magical Mystery Tour: Smoke pot, smoke pot, everybody's smoking pot. What a HUGE disappointment Lincecum has turned out to be. A good for your guys, a bad for mine.

What do our linguistic "traditionalists" think of this?

Nice tune, Pete -
Apparently, Nader is as clueless about the money-focused Yankees as he is about politics. He's just now complaining about their money grubbing ways...?

The English Language is ever evolving. To expect otherwise is a fool's paradise, IMHO. -
You could try that, I suppose. However, I prefer to catch up with old friends and aquaintances instead. I think if you're going to use FB, you just need to be smart about it is all.

Well, Voglesong didn't bring his best stuff but the Giants got it done anyway; 5-2. Rubber match tomorrow, but Lincecum is on the mound. Ugh. If he lives up to his ERA, the game is over. Our only hope is the bullpen will come in before the 2nd inning. Hard work being a Giants fan, I'm tellin' ya.

Zito still has too much time and money owed left on his contract with the Giants. Nobody is going to take him. Besides, Feldman sucks worse than Zito does. Actually, Zito has been doing a fairly good job thus far. How about a Zito for Harrison trade?

It baffles me, too. I have no doubt that if used properly and to one's own advantage, Facebook can be an awesome tool for many things. However, there have been a couple of well-publicized downsides. Off the top of my head: 1. I've heard stories of job offers being rescinded because of behavior witnessed on Facebook accounts. 2. Kids often post pics on Facebooks that have been taken using smartphones. Last year, it was discovered that such pics contain GPS technology embedded in them. Predators have been using this technology to actively stalk children. As a father of two teenagers, this is the one I have the biggest problem with. Hopefully, I've helped you guys to become a little more unbaffled. Good point. I, too, have read/heard of such issues. However, if you completely lock down your FB account where all anyone can see who hasn't "friended" you [God, I hate that "word"] is your name and picture, the only way in is to hack your account. Personally, I wouldn't want to work for a boss who would stoop to such measures. As to the stalking issue, kids that are too young shouldn't have a FB account in the first place. The parents need to get a handle on that to keep their children safe. Same could happen on an e-mail account, too. As a father of a teen myself, I am very aware of what she does on the Web. In fact, both my kids are on my Friends list. They can look in on me [and my wife/their Mom] just like we can look in on them. IMHO, it's a win-win as long as the parents don't "abuse" the privelge, so-to-speak. Just sayin'.

Yes, but that does not make it proper. Everyone knows what "LOL" means. Is it now part of the lexicon? I can guarantee you that one will get further in life by effectively communicating in a cogent manner. Opening up a cover letter, for instance, with "Hey Yo, I googled your company and...." will get you nowhere 100 out of 100 times. Please, everybody stop the bullshit. Agreed. However, I think there is a danger here of concluding new words added to the lexicon is the same as proper salutations in a business letter. With all due respect, inappropriate writing [especially in a syntactical sense or proper writing style] is not the same as coining new words or phrases. I couldn't have said it any better. -
I love their newspaper column...read it every week!

I get your point. However, would we have words like aerospace, biodiesel, Americanize, gig, supersize, video, ringtone, etc if not for the changes we have seen/created/invented? Words are created to reflect that change and to identify these "new" things in our ever evolving world. I think we should all chillax, even if we're facing Grexit Word. -

To misquote Shakespeare: Much ado about nothing. Language evolves with each passing technological advance, web slang, iconic or popular use and the rest. I mean, if we can tolerate "abortuary" then "friending" someone should be no big deal. -
He's a punk. A Terrell Owens lite.

OK. You heard it here first: Lincecum is done. It's over. Kaput. Fin. The Giants are 2-10 with him on the mound. I have no idea what happened. Maybe a bad case of Zito-itis: Get the big money contract then go in the tank. Who knows, but it is just not happening this year.

As a teenager, I was fortunate to see Rad Bradbury give a lecture at Pomona College. He was then and still is one my most favorite fiction writers. I have taught several of his short stories to my students and am very sad to learn of his passing. Rest in Peace, Mr. Bradbury.

Sorry to see him go in such a tragic way. RIP Richard Dawson.

Giants sweep the Cubbies. Go Phillies!

You left off Pablo Sanchez. Just sayin'. And about 7 or 8 Mets! Hey Goodie, how's Pagan doing over there? Torres is batting like .211! Heard an interview with him the other day on the radio with the local NYC blowhard, Mike Francesa. I did not know that he was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Apparently, he was experiencing problems with it since childhood, but was never correctly diagnosed. The NYU Film school has done a documentary on him and his plight called "Gigante". So far, Pagan has been a boost to the defense and is speedy fast on the basepaths [scoring from 1B on a single yesterday]. His hitting has improved since the start of the season and is just a little better at the plate than Torres was. Hope it gets even better from here. Giants are doing OK right now...and you're right: Fly balls just die in that ballpark. It's the wind that curls over the stands on the 1B side of the field that pushes the ball down. Triple Alley, as it's called in right center, is a long way to go for a HR. OTOH, if the ball gets by the OFer anything can happen. Rangers are a tough out, though, so nothing is stamped in granite at this point. By the time the Dodgers come to town, and with any luck, it will be a battle to see who stays in 1st. I'm planning on going to that series.
