  7. Can I buy you a beer to welcome you? Where are you moving to?
  8. This one was a big challenge. Buddy Rich may have needed a little help from Paul Anka.
  9. No, it's not a threesome of Abercrombie, Holland & DeJohnette. http://news.yahoo.com/critics-blast-tennessees-no-holding-hands-bill-141632130.html

  11. I recently learned that she's on the faculty of one of my alma maters (or is it almas mater?), Brooklyn College. When I was an undergrad in the '70s the piano star was Agustin Anievas.

  16. If you need extra storage for a device that doesn't have SD expansion (Kindle Fire, iPhone, iPad), there's the WiDrive from Kingston. You access the drive's contents via the WiFi on your device. As far as ebooks are concerned, all Kindles have more than enough storage for anybody, but I store films on the WiDrive. You load the WiDrive app on your device and that's your interface. http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Wi-Drive-External-WID-16GBZ/dp/B00576APBQ/ref=sr_1_2
  17. Their recent reunion album was quite good. I love Bruce. I think he was one of the greatest singers of classic rock besides one of the best bass players, and I love him on the Michael Mantler stuff too. I recently watched a documentary about the Cream reunion. I was unaware of how much Ginger Baker can't stand Bruce!
  18. I think the point is that people can be very adept at compartmentalizing and being stealthy and not go around obviously slobbering over potential targets or something like that. I spent some time with Bill, and yes I was shocked that the nice, low-key, sober seeming, gentle person I knew had this particular problem, but I understand that people can live successful double lives and function as "non-monsters" or even exemplary citizens in other contexts, so I never thought "that's impossible." The only online argument I ever remember getting into with Bill was when I called him a Pollyanna for getting so upset by criticisms of artists he loved! Goodspeak has been standing by his man Paterno on several boards from the beginning of this episode. That's his prerogative, I suppose.
  19. I left my original kindle on a plane and got a kindle fire. Loving it, once I put an anti-glare screen cover on. I now have a Rhapsody subscription for it, get the tablet edition of NY Review of Books which is considerably cheaper than the cheapest print subscription, have bought a number of kindle daily deals, and can check Organissimo in coffee shops. I thought a tablet would be tougher on the eyes than the original kindle, but with proper contrast/brightness controls and the glare guard it's not that much different, plus it's easier to read in low light situations.
  20. I don't have the recording, but are you asking because you recognize the tune and believe it has also been recorded under another name?
  21. To try to second guess the feelings of an abused person is rather presumptuous.
  22. I'm a big Kinks fan. I think Davies' Working Man's Cafe is right up there with the best of the Kinks. The predecessor, Other People's Lives is very good, but not as good.
  23. My point was that given the realities of the marketplace and the constant triumph of mediocrity it's rather pointless to get depressed (Allen's word) over those successes, especially when they're in a realm in which one doesn't have a stake. I think Allen is being oversensitive here about the responses. If these are "personal attacks" they're about as benign as they can get on a public bulletin board.
