  1. sell.com and ioffer.com are gray market type sites where you can buy the kinds of bootlegs that ebay no longer allows. Actually, I've bought a lot of otherwise unavailable films and TV series from sellers on these sites.
  2. Especially considering the publisher: Publisher: Peter Pullman, LLC; 1 edition (February 14, 2012) One thing that struck me about the English edition I did read is how many of the incidents in Round Midnight were paralleled in the book.
  3. As has been mentioned above, you can download a free app for whatever device you want to use (e.g., tablet, computer, phone). Here's the link to the book from both Amazon and Amazon.de. Both have links on the right side to download the free reader app. http://www.amazon.com/Wail-Life-Bud-Powell-ebook/dp/B0079NR9IC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329863417&sr=8-2 http://www.amazon.de/Wail-Life-Bud-Powell-ebook/dp/B0079NR9IC/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1329863247&sr=1-1 So if you have an Amazon account, the app will link to any e-books you buy, as well as public domain works that are free through Amazon and Project Gutenberg.

  5. They were decent in 1985. When I was next in London in the '90s they were something altogether different.

  9. No, it was the show where Miles opened for Lee Michaels! Further research shows that the original lineup was Miles & The Buddy Miles Express, but Buddy canceled and Lee Michaels was the replacement. I'm pretty sure Miles was on first. That was also the year (1970) that I saw Elton John as an opening act, for Leon Russell at the Fillmore. The Schaeffer show with Monk was the prior year.
  10. Queen Disc Q 003? Yeah. The info was on a sheet of cheap paper in typewriter type attached to the back of the jacket with tape, IIRC, and it said it was recorded at the "Sharine" Auditorium.

  12. It's on Spotify: That was the year I started going to jazz shows (not counting hearing but not seeing Miles at a Schaeffer concert in 1970 or '71, hanging out with my friends outside the rink). In February of that year I saw the Mingus and Friends concert, so my hands are on at least 2 records from '72. There was a piano room at the Village Gate, on street level, that had no cover and no quiet policy. Two pianists who were able to cut through the noise were Harold Mabern and Benny Green.

  14. Well, I was definitely at the July 6 show, as I distinctly remember Buckner & Mingus, and Mayfield was on that night. I may have been at another night too, or I may just be remembering the LPs!

  16. No, he played with his own band, about a 20-minute set after 1AM. The jams ran, IIRC, from 11PM-1AM. Part of his set was released on this album: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Newport-In-New-York-72-The-Soul-Sessions-Vol-6/release/1838962
  17. My hands are on the record. I think I was at two of the Radio City jams, at the tender age of 16. At the end of one of them Curtis Mayfield came out to play the music from Superfly, which had just been released--apparently since the shows were being recorded for Buddha and they were also releasing or distributing the soundtrack.

  19. The "once again" was general, not directed at you specifically. I've pointed out a number of times sites that don't allow hot linking, so nobody else will see the image. If I'm browsing at home, I should be able to see any valid image (it's more complicated at work where certain types of source sites are blocked). The reason you can see the image is because it's linking to your cached version that your computer picked up and stored in a temp file when you first browsed the image. The "cache effect" is a reason folks don't realize that their images aren't showing to everybody. But I remember that rateyourmusic is definitely a site that doesn't allow external linking (to protect their bandwidth). Another popular site for google image results that don't work is impawards.com. That's why when I'm posting album covers I'll usually look for it on Amazon, since I know the link would work.

  22. Once again, rateyourmusic images are not hot linkable, so at least provide the text. Mother Goose Eugene Goossens Eugene the Magical Jeep

Let me know if you do. The guy working the door that night is a friend, and he can point me out.
