  2. I wish someone would release A Bag of Gold on CD. I wore out the grooves on the lp I had in the '70s, which I believe I bought as a cutout at Sam Goody's bargain outlet (IIRC, across the street from the main store where Harry Lim worked).

  4. That session was quite a train wreck.
  5. New York was in the 60s on Wednesday. Fort Lauderdale was clear and in the 70s on Thursday. Mexico City was in the upper 60s yesterday afternoon and is clear and crisp this morning, shaping up to be a beautiful day.

  9. I love Joe Carroll. I saw him ca. 1976 on a jazz "cruise" on the Hudson. He was singing with Howard McGhee. I think Red Rodney and Charles McPherson might have also been on the bill. Very nice guy--I mentioned I had an Italian bootleg of a Dizzy L.A. Shrine concert where Joe was amazing.
  10. He'd be the first to admit that. I think he said that being in Hamp's band with Clifford Brown and Art Farmer made him decide he'd better apply his talent and energies elsewhere... Regardless of any "moral failings," his own big band recordings of the late '50s and early '60s and his charts for Basie are stellar.

  17. I use Blogger and all of my posts since 2006 are there, and in date order, so I'm not sure what you mean. If it's just a matter of taking old posts down without losing them, I have two suggestions. First, go into edit on a post you want off the blog and do a save as draft. If that doesn't work, see what happens if you change the post date to a future date--I think they'd disappear from the live blog, but you'd still have them in storage to repost at a later date with a changed date if you choose. Yesterday would have been Singing Sumo/Dobie's birthday, and I posted your blog link at JC on the "Sayonara Singing Sumo" thread, since you had mentioned that he was instrumental in getting you to start pouring out the memories.

  19. Hey Chris, I was trying to go back to early posts in your blog, and it seems that many of the posts marked 2008 or 2009 were written much more recently. What's the story?

  21. For some reason, the exclamation point is not staying with the link, and it goes to a bad page. Let's see if this works Yes, it works.
  22. Why Art Pepper, rather than any of the other "all-stars"? According to the original cover, the session was "supervised by Quincy Jones," but indeed they don't seem to be his charts. http://www.discogs.com/Quincy-Jones-Go-West-Man/release/2454118
