Would someone who has the Blakey/Joe Gordon Verve Elite kindly do me a favor and pm me the bar code number or catalog number or any other identifying info? I can't find this damn thing to save my life. Thanks!

Come on, Ron--you haven't been to anything lately! Plus, getting down to center city will give you a chance to extract Allen Lowe (or was it his wife? Or his wallet?) from my basement. Me too . . . maybe.

Supposed to be in the mid-60's this weekend. Planning on getting the /5 out on the streets!

Me too. I'll see you there!

This just in!!! Friday, April 23 5:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Philadelphia Museum of Art - Art After 5 - Free after museum admission Wayne Shorter Saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter is a living legend in jazz. His great body of work as a musician and composer for such illustrious groups as Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers, Miles Daviss famous mid-1960s quintet, and fusion supergroup Weather Report is enough to ensure him a spot in the Jazz Hall of Fame. He will premiere a new work inspired by the Museums collection. This program, including the commissioning and presentation, is made possible by a grant from the Philadelphia Music Project, a program of the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Heritage, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by The University of the Arts

Either list would be fine, because I could check it against the lists on jazzdisco.org; but I'd be curious about this information as well, as I think the sonics on this series were terrific. -

Agree with the NYC meetup idea--would have to be that weekend (April 2-4) for me, though, fwiw. -
LF: John Coltrane - Om (CD)
Peter Johnson replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Offering and Looking For...
And my (admittedly limited) experience with Mundo is similar to Hans'--the CD was listed as "in stock," but was in fact not available and "backordered." Fortunately, Hiroshi was able to find me a new copy--so I'm good! I have ordered CDs that were listed on Ray Mizutani/Mundo's site several times, but seven times out of ten he was not able to supply them. The CD stocklists of many artists on his site haven't been updated in ages. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
Peter Johnson replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Wowowwwowwwowwwwwww....just got home after the Art Ensemble show in Philly, with Roscoe Mitchell fronting on soprano and alto sax. I don't even know what to say about this incredible show. The band hit a groove from the first note from William Parker from an African bass of some sort, and swung like hell for an hour and a half. I did not know until tonight that Roscoe was a master of circular breathing; at one point, he played what must have been a 15 minute solo without an "air break." The audience was completely into the show, other than a few walkout stragglers (their loss); loved hearing someone shout for "Jackson in the House" at the encore. My AACM knowledge is regrettably not as comprehensive as it should be, so I can't report as to the specific songs played--but the concert just kicked some serious, groovin' ass. Many thanks to Chuck for getting this music out there. -

LF: John Coltrane - Om (CD)
Peter Johnson replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Well...on the off chance this might exist in Japan, I sent Hiroshi an email asking if had, or could get, a copy. He didn't think it had ever been released individually! So let me ask this: does anyone EVEN HAVE this? Allmusic.com indicates a 1989 and a 1994 release--but are they really out there? -

It was posted earlier, I think, but just in case: Art Ensemble of Chicago in Philly THIS SATURDAY!!! Who's going? Saturday, March 6, 8pm ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO with Roscoe Mitchell, reeds; Hugh Ragin, trumpet; William Parker, double-bass; and Famoudou Don Moye, drums + percussion International House Philadelphia, 3701 Chestnut Street $20 General Admission Founded in 1969, the Art Ensemble of Chicago is the flagship ensemble of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and one of the most influential collectives in jazz history. Originally comprised of saxophonists Roscoe Mitchell and Joseph Jarman, trumpeter Lester Bowie, bassist Malachi Favors, and later, drummer Famoudou Don Moye, the Art Ensemble of Chicago are pioneers of multi-instrumentalism and, for over 40 years, have given unforgettable performances in which music, ritual and Dadaist theatre are interwoven. Their performances combine elements of jazz's history and pre-history - music from the sanctified church services, minstrel shows and bawdy houses of late 19th and early 20th century America - with a modernist spirit of experimentation. Join us for this rare visit from one of America's greatest artistic treasures. Advance tickets available at Ars Nova Hey--hope we'll see you at the Bob Mould show!

Thanks, John--I have that, but I am specifically looking for a single-disc issue of this, for a number of reasons. -
Hi all. I'm looking for a copy of John Coltrane's Impulse recording "Om" on CD; I suspect there are several versions out there, Japanese versions, etc.; if a mini-LP version exists, I'd be interested in that; if anyone has one to sell, please let me know. Thanks!

This is insane! At least 1.5 feet where I'm at in Philly--a few blocks from J.H. Deely! Had to run out to grab a few groceries, and I would never have made it, let alone out of the parking lot, without four wheel drive...
