A very significant portion of my practice is drafting wills for folks who have quite a lot--and no, sadly, it does not surprise me--either that advisors didn't suggest it, or if they did, that he didn't listen. It's unfortunate for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that is the chief method in almost every state by which an individual can name a guardian of his or her minor children, to take effect upon death. His mother has petitioned, and received (at least temporarily) custodianship of his kids; who knows if that bears any resemblance to the result he would have wanted. Chuck has it right--this will be tied up in trust & estate litigation for years--something I take it upon myself to do everything in my power to avoid. The lawyers will be the winners, I fear. I heard on the radio today that nobody is sure if he had a will. Can you imagine someone that wealthy whose financial advisors did not insist that he have a will? I can imagine someone that wealthy not listening to those advisors had they suggested he make a will.

Awesome, John! As it turns out, we'll be in Seattle on 8/1, but don't think we'll be able to make our way that far north. :-( I'm pretty bummed, especially now that I know what I'll be missing. Have a terrific run--if it looks like things will change I'll let you know!

Great thread, great reminder that the small things in life can be the best! Right now, the first clear blue sky Philly has seen in what feels like weeks is making me smile, as is the fact that I had a great weekend with Laura, I'm at work before anybody else and rocking some tunes, and the week feels like it will be speedy and rather manageable!

We should be there for at least the 10:30 hit on Friday, probably 12:00 as well. Looking forward to seeing you and your band!

oh man oh man oh man, WHAT A SHOW. You guys were on FIRE--those were some of the best sounds I've heard live in Philadelphia! Just great fun, great music, extremely competently played. I really hope you consider putting out a live record--perhaps including some tracks from last night's hit. I had no idea how much you stretch out your tunes in a live setting--and the group interplay is extraordinary, like you're all in each others' heads. Thanks for the music--great hang with Jim, Joe, and Randy, and RonS, J.H. Deeley, and Templejazz (who it was nice to meet)! Can't wait for the next gig!

*smacks head* thanks, Lon. That site is kind of hard to use/find information on. There has to be a way to sort all jazz CD's, just like all the jazz SACD's, and then sort by price, but i'm just not able to figure it out.

Lon--are those SACD's hybrids? I can't tell from the listings. Thanks in advance, if you know!
