  1. Because the thread is about Dexter Gordon? See also Paul Chambers thread, Miles Davis Thread, myriad of Coltrane threads, usw. Nonetheless, I wouldn't say he's being "singled out" for it--the thread is about his playing, and folks are arguing (in some cases, somewhat compellingly) that they can hear it in his playing. Strongly disagree with your sweeping generalization, by the way.
  2. State your opinion and defend it if you wish; about the only "rule." Why some people take a "my opinion or the highway" approach is beyond me. Allen, I do hear what you describe from your interveiew with LTD in his playing and I think your description is spot on and an interesting characterization. For me, however, what you describe is what I love about his playing--a little stop time here, behind the beat there, and then, all of a sudden, a rush forward. Chemically-induced or not, I love the technique (or symptom, depending on your opinon!).
  3. Second (third? Fourth?) the Takacs recordings. Completely brilliant. I discovered the Takacs quartet from recommendations here for their recordings of the Bartok quartets (truly sublime and highly recommended). Not to derail, but who has and can comment on the Takacs recording of the Smetana and Borodin quartets?
  4. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings, etc. to all-- Going to take the train to Portland for a couple days--I don't even want to think about the inside of a car this time of year! Stay safe and warm, y'all!
  5. Even more restrictive now. FMV is what the damn thing sold for at auction (makes sense, right?) unless it sold for less than $500, in which case FMV is $500.

  7. Twere'nt me, my man...I'll stick with my 47 W. 63rd mono version!
  8. Yeah, but what do you hear if you play the record backwards?
  9. Thanks, FFA!
  10. Have to agree with everything that's been said. Byrd was all over this record--it's really an "alive" session to me.
  11. i.e., chicken?
  12. Moi aussi. Otherwise, I'll invite myself to lunch in Vienna... And I'll bring the cigarettes! So do I! Yep.
  13. I have the same goddamn problem. Can someone tell me "how to get my java fixed"???? (Mac/Safari) "damn, I wish catesta would bring me another beer" and "damn, I could do with a cake baked by maren now" get your java fixed! Yeah Maren, get it fixed. There is beer in that live chat place.
  14. Much love. Thanks for the music, Dave.
  15. Ladies and Gentlemen, A fond welcome to my friend Troy Kendrick--gentleman, scholar, lover of all that is jazz and similar such art forms, player of the bass, lover/hater of Paul Chambers, lover of late-period McCoy Tyner...well, he can explain all of that for himself... What more is there to say? Delighted that my return to Seattle reqacuaints me with an old friend and allows me to (finally) bring someone over to this mad, mad world of ours. Give it up! Welcome, Troy!
  16. Second (or third) this suggestion. And a big thumbs-up to the company. I purchased this program online (Roxio 6). Looking at the website a few days later, they were trumpeting Roxio 7, even though I'd already used my download link and installed 6! I went to Roxio's live chat (support) feature, and told the rep what happened. It turns out I might have mistakenly ordered 6 when I meant to order 7, but no questions asked, she refunded my money for Roxio 6 and ordered me up a download link for Roxio 7--at the upgrade price! Man, it's rare to get customer service like that. Love the program (have already digitized a couple of Cal Tjader records), love the customer service.
  17. Alll-rigght!!!! Happy Birthday, David!
