  1. "no stems no seeds that we don't need..." Nice "score", Dmitry!
  2. Hope it's all good, Joe, and a damn happy birthday to you! Check back, man, ok?
  3. Wayelll..... It took my order just fine!
  4. Can't give enough praise to buying wax from Paul. His (now mine!) copy of Consequence (Japanese Vinyl) came quick, packed perfectly, and was in amazing shape. Nary a pop or a click! I'm waiting for him to sell the rest of his Japan-only blue note vinyl. Come on, Paul--what are you waiting for?
  5. Hell of a place. Thanks, Jim A et al!
  6. If you don't mind my asking, how? I've been wanting to "save" night lights as well... Thanks!
  7. All right! Happy birthday!
  8. Happy Birthday, Wes!!! Bottoms up!!!
  9. Like Chris, I think it's time to jump back into the fray. PM on the way, Guy!
  10. To reiterate: god DAMN this is a great record!!! K. M. Blues... does it get any better? Sorry to gush...
  11. In the midst of my current Basie kick (and by the way, thanks (here) for the recommendations (there), more on that later in the right thread), I ran across this in Borders and thought I remembered some discussion of it here. Didn't remember these accolades, all of which, imho, are very well-deserved. What a side! This is one of those rare records that I can put on at the office and it has me out of my seat dancing around a bit (sorry if that image disturbs... ). At home, it's a full-on one man jam session, me playing the finest in air-trumpet, air-bass, air-drums...wow. Love, love, LOVE this album! If anyone is on the fence about this, get off the damn fence and buy it. P.S. Ben Webster is in GREAT form on this!
  12. Man, in that case...

    BLAH!

Or wait till Sangrey moves here and then you two can cook up some serious musica con carne!
  14. I've never been caught in the rain here the way I was caught in the rain in Philadelphia! That said, there are many words for rain...mist/drizzle/showers/etc. etc. etc.
  15. I think I speak for all of us here when I say, "this place will be a damn sight better with your presence in it, Sangrey--come on out!" Seriously, man--are you thinking about this? Happy to chat on or offline if you want all the (good and bad) details from my (now) one year as a transplant from Philadelphia (caveat--I grew up in Portland, OR, so have some roots...)
  16. Loved the office--watched the entire thing, plus the Christmas special, over a two-week period on DVD! I also loved Coupling (although the last season kind of sucked).
  17. Fun thread! I have only one: Fucking hysterical!
  18. Or Jerry's missing finger???
  19. Hang on to her, man!!! Cool! Congrats! I won't lay claim to "SO" yet, but we did go out for sushi and drinks, etc., great time. Plus, she played me some unreleased steel-string guitar music of a friend of hers that was like early, "good" Will Ackerman. The chick's got serious taste!
  20. Thanks, everyone--this is a great start. I know I can get Atomic Basie and Newport today, and will think about whether to get the the Hep or the (verve?) issue of the Decca sides. Thanks!
  21. Okay, here we go. [deep breath] I don't have a single count basie record in my collection. Not one. [sorry.] This weekend I was driving around and heard "Jumpin' at the Woodside" in two versions--one recorded in 1960 (loved it), and one recorded by the Armed Forces Radio in 1943 (loved it almost as much). I thought, "man, you have got to get some damn Count Basie in your collection." So please help me out--where should I start?
  22. I almost never rip the alt takes when I put music in my ipod. Which means I rarely go back and listen to them on the CD. Like them for "academic" purposes, but don't "need" them otherwise.
  23. If y'all want to pick a few in advance, I'll grab 'em and bring 'em back to work and join in tonight. What say you? How about (if nobody's sick of it) Blue Train, for starters? Anyone want to set a time?
  24. Yeah it is a good contrast. Nirvana is the greatest rock band in history. Pear Jam sucks. Can I have some of that crack?
