  1. There's a huge borders with a very large CD section at Broad and Market!!! You can't miss it! I concur. Unfortuantely, out in Philly there seems to be a serious Borders shortage. ←
  2. Happy Birthday, Dan! I'm spinning some Sounds in your honor! PJ
  3. The tugboat is great, has a great beer & wine selection, and a terrific vibe. I should be able to crash at my folks' house that night, so I'll try to make the 9/24 show as well!
  4. PM sent re 3 sounds!
  5. Has anyone heard anything? All seems quiet...
  6. Whole snapper, baked w/ sauteed onions, green & red peppers, garlic, thyme, olive oil, and white wine. The closer to the bone...the sweeter the meat!
  7. "Recordings" link NSFW!!!
  8. I agree...I am a bit disturbed at the possible spectacle of "all the state of the art computer effects" that he kept mentioning...damn, couldn't they have just given the tapes to Malcolm Addey? Oh well, the thing's coming out, and I haven't heard it yet, so open ears...open ears...still can't WAIT to hear it!
  9. Will do! ←
  10. Damn, I didn't even know this thread was here. I'm pleased to report that I've heard Mr. Caliman's quartet at Tula's in Seattle twice over the last couple of months. Huge highlight of the first night I saw him: Mamacita, which the band took at a terrific tempo, and nailed. There's loads of joy in Hadley's playing, which is what it's all about, imho...when he walks on the stand and puts the reed in his mouth, he's there, and it's all about the notes and the fun. As a special bonus, Julian Priester showed up that first night (I didn't even know he was alive--turns out he's in residence at Cornish here in Seattle) and sat in on a few tunes! I spoke with Hadley afterwards, thanked him for the music, and he couldn't have been nicer. He said he's working on trying to get his old sides reissued, and (surprise) that he's on the Carmell Jones Select (which I then purchased). He's playing at Tula's in Seattle again on September 30, and I'll be there...
  11. Thanks to you ba$tards, I bought this damn CD tonight. Wow. Thanks, you bastards...these sides kick some ass. Nicely recorded, as well! Wes, rip off that shrink wrap, man--a treat is in store!
  12. Oh. My. God. I can't wait to hear this.
  13. Thanks Mike--an example of what liner notes should contain, while we still have the ability to get these guys' recollections!!!
  14. Nicely done, Paco, on all accounts. Keep up the good work and let us know when the album drops! Thanks for the music!
  15. With all due respect, why assume that? I love the original recordings as much as I love seeing what turntablists have done with them from a sampling perspective. I'll admit it; wouldn't have gotten hip to Bobby Hutch's San Francisco if it weren't for Us3; wouldn't have gotten hip to Freddie Hubbard's Red Clay if it weren't for Tribe Called Quest. Loads of overlap, my friend!
  16. You should only need to jog Ortleib's and Chris' bookers' memories; Jim will remember that I left presskits with them last year (and copies of Boogaloo Sisters).
  17. And if you don't have the means? Then what?
  18. Saw this at the counter this morning--$13.95. Anyone pick it up?
  19. You mean like Spyro Gyra?
  20. Just ordered 'em all (except Andrew!!!). Can't wait to get these! (Careful--don't combine your order with your current order for the Cellar Door sessions!)
  21. Paging Water records!
  22. Grilled halibut seasoned with salt & pepper; grilled veggies; and a fresh blackberry/peach cobbler. Yum!
  23. I was wondering the same thing!
  24. Thanks!
