Damn, I didn't even know this thread was here. I'm pleased to report that I've heard Mr. Caliman's quartet at Tula's in Seattle twice over the last couple of months. Huge highlight of the first night I saw him: Mamacita, which the band took at a terrific tempo, and nailed. There's loads of joy in Hadley's playing, which is what it's all about, imho...when he walks on the stand and puts the reed in his mouth, he's there, and it's all about the notes and the fun. As a special bonus, Julian Priester showed up that first night (I didn't even know he was alive--turns out he's in residence at Cornish here in Seattle) and sat in on a few tunes! I spoke with Hadley afterwards, thanked him for the music, and he couldn't have been nicer. He said he's working on trying to get his old sides reissued, and (surprise) that he's on the Carmell Jones Select (which I then purchased). He's playing at Tula's in Seattle again on September 30, and I'll be there...

Thanks to you ba$tards, I bought this damn CD tonight. Wow. Thanks, you bastards...these sides kick some ass. Nicely recorded, as well! Wes, rip off that shrink wrap, man--a treat is in store!

With all due respect, why assume that? I love the original recordings as much as I love seeing what turntablists have done with them from a sampling perspective. I'll admit it; wouldn't have gotten hip to Bobby Hutch's San Francisco if it weren't for Us3; wouldn't have gotten hip to Freddie Hubbard's Red Clay if it weren't for Tribe Called Quest. Loads of overlap, my friend!

You should only need to jog Ortleib's and Chris' bookers' memories; Jim will remember that I left presskits with them last year (and copies of Boogaloo Sisters).
