  1. Greetings-- Looking for a copy of this CD (combines two records, to the best of my knowledge) which I can't find anywhere (other than a couple of usurious used prices on Amazon & Half). Anyone got an extra? Thanks in advance! Peter J
  2. ANY other "E"s on the board?
  3. I'll be damned. As I've aged, so has my score! I now appear to be an ENTJ. What does it all mean...
  4. Hmmmm...we all get along swimmingly, but I'm an ESTJ
  5. Jim, et al: It's my fervent hope that little by little we can spread the gospel to change this around. Maybe it's a pipe dream, but to take your wedding example: I have a lot of friends who know I love music--so they often ask me for advice re who to use for their weddings. When I got married in Seattle, we engaged a nonet. We had a choice between about three bands; two were fairly close in price, one was, as you said, severely undercutting the competition. Talking to the two expensive bands, one of which was fronted by a bass player, I asked about similar repertoire, starting with the question, "can you guys play "Better Get (H)it in your Soul?" The bass-playing leader of one nonet said, "can we play it? I can do you one better. Bob Hammer (Mingus' erstwhile pianist and bass player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is in our group, and he'll bring the original lead sheets." The other leader didn't know what I was talking about. Can you guess which one we used, gladly, regardless of the price? They worked their way through Mingus, trane, Miles, Prima, Miller, you name it; and nary a "YMCA" in the set. Now I know I may not be the typical "jazz band" consumer, what with my interest in keeping this music alive. But you know what? Three years later I still have people calling me and asking, "the band you had that played all that old jazz--do you have a contact number?" Thought I'd toss out the "ottimista" viewpoint... PJ
  6. Beck to Boogaloo Dwele (self-titled) Pet Sounds Straight no Filter
  7. Get it. If you don't, you'll always wonder...then you'll see it again in two years for double the price and buy it to satisfy your curiosity. Get it!
  8. Sorry for the late update, but "King George" (the real one! ) will be playing with his cast of thousands at Robin Hood Dell tomorrow night. See this site for details. Tix are only $15--got mine at Tower today (ticketbastard) and looks like some are still available. "Make my funk the P-funk..."
  9. Hellyeah! And what the hell:
  10. There's a LOT of common ground here--VERY bizarre. One of the more musically-able among us should try to come up with some consistencies. Of everything that's been mentioned, I'm pretty much down with it all (including my previous affirmation of the Gino Vanelli sub-thread): Thomas Dolby (Particularly "Astronauts & Heretics," a GENIUS album) Dr. Dre, "Chronic" Snoop Dogg, "Doggystyle" Cure, "Head on the Door" Digable Planets Cheap Trick add to this Whitesnake, and Scorpions Oh yeah, and Soulstation, Blue Train, Kind of Blue, etc. etc. etc. What the HELL is up with that. Great use of chords?
  11. I've been looking for "Steppin' Out" for years! Anyone got an extra beat up vinyl copy they'd like to move to a good home? *comes back to reality*
  12. I'll drink to that!
  13. When will THIS be reissued?
  14. I'm...so...scared...
  15. This must be greazzzy...
  16. And that, in a nutshall and my (not so?) humble opinion, is exactly what's made this place so fuckin' cool. I'll drink to that, Jim!
  17. Jim--I want to respond to your comment because I'm firmly in the "no censorship" camp. And with all due respect, in response to your comment, that even goes for "graphic pictures of bloody fetuses." I wouldn't like it, and probably wouldn't comment on it; but speaking for myself, when I say I'm firmly anti-censorship, I mean I'm anti-censorship regardless of the topic. This is not a snippy response to bait someone into testing my personal wish that the board remain censorship free (I mean, I also abide by the "just don't go there" policy more often than not when it comes to controversial threads/topics); and I believe the judicially-administered fist of doom serves a purpose; just wanted to give you my point of view and back up my previous call for keeping the board as is. Peter
  18. Got a backup of about 25 sides of wax. For me, the records stack up quicker--living in a house in the middle of the city with a very narrow mailslot, I have stuff delivered to work. When CDs arrive, I rip those damn things open (can barely contain myself ) and jam them in my work computer. This has, however, prejudiced my initial reaction to some discs--hearing, say, Bob Belden's Black Dahlia (LOVE that record! ) for the first time on my P.C.'s 2" woofer/tweeter/midrange all in one MONO speaker was, uhhh...UNDERWHELMING. But it's my sanctuary to listen to vinyl at home, so when I go on a trip (Seattle, last) and get the hook up with some tasty sides (Midnight Blue first press mono $5.99! LeGrand Jazz first press mono $3.00! Pharaoah Sanders Elevation, $4.99!) they sometimes have to wait a while... Peter
  19. Gino's still out there!!! Gino's Official Site!
  20. Agree. PLEASE keep it as is. The early vestiges of censorship, posting rules, word choice and other onerous restrictions are precisely what killed the other board from a time long ago and a galaxy far away. This board is the **** as is--if it ain't broke, don't ******* fix it! (see how much that totally ******* *****?) Peter P.S. Yes, I added the asterisks!!!
  21. Normal's Record and Book store. I got a great haul of first and second press blue notes there one winter ; unfortunately, I've struck out every time I've been back (twice, now). Don't know their address, but you can phone them on 410-243-6888. Peter
  22. I, too, enjoy the added material--not necessarily more than the original, but in a different way, and equally well. There's something super smoove about it, not sure what--and it's hard to imagine it came from the same session; but the vibe is there, and heavy. I love it! As another person who's on a Sounds jag, I'm currently thoroughly enjoying my recent acquisition--both volumes of "Live at the It Club". At the same time inspired and cautioned by comments from another thread, I picked it up and really enjoy it. Great liner notes as well--it was interesting that the "it Club" sessions represented somewhat of a return to the roots for Harris, particularly having just wrapped three "orchestral" records for Blue Note--Coldwater Flat and two others I can't recall at the moment (Soul ___???). I've never heard those records--Dan Gould, can you shed any light? but the reconstituted Sounds were in the pocket at the It Club--yet another reason I feel I was born too early!!! Peter
  23. Jim, I can get with that! One of my favorite songs is "It just Wanna Stop" by Gino...he was playing here in Philly recently, didn't quite make it to the show, though!
  24. Michael Jackson everything from Off the Wall through Bad. Can't get enough of that Quincy-produced shizzit!
