  1. Man oh man is this a subject near and dear to my heart. Catesta, I couldn't agree more with the following choice as one of the sickest designs ever. I'll throw the following out as one of times car designers have gotten something RIGHT in the last five years: 98 Jag XK8 It's very derivative without being a mockery. Unfortunately, I hear (but even more unfortunately, I don't acually KNOW ) that the handling/spirit is not as derivative as the skin... Must drive both of these cars someday!!!
  2. Yeah--are you thinking of going? I'm also contemplating hearing Terasson's trio at the art museum, but am leaning in favor of seeing Bud since I think Jacky's going to be with us a lot longer...
  3. Dan, does it make sense to post a list so those of us who want to be on the list can make sure we are (and you'll stop getting PM's)? PJ
  4. Damn!!! Okay, does anyone here want to buy my copy of Another Workout for $80.00? I'll even toss in free shipping (media mail, natch)!
  5. Count me in as a "yes" vote on adding a Vinyl Korner to these esteemed forae (???). I don't want to "give assignments," Use & Jim, but perhaps it could be given a trial run, and if it doesn't take off, the threads could be moved elsewhere? That being said, who else here grooves with a Thorens?
  6. I dig your style, Soul--I'm on Windows 98, First Edition (old skool!) virus- and worm-free!!!
  7. Solamente uno!!! Page One, by good ol' Joe. Got it before I found it on wax, and have kept it for the office!
  8. Yippee--I was able to score this at duffelbag, and I'm listening to it now. I agree with you on both fronts, sidewinder; that this is an undersung gem, and that the *********** piano should have been in tune. I guess I'll try to convince myself that it's part of the "mood!" But I do enjoy this record. The original UA and PJ records must have been VERY limited pressing, because in my years of crate-digging I've NEVER seen either of them. Thanks for your suggestions on where to find this!
  9. RESURRECT IT!!!!
  10. Come on, you guys--where y'all finding this artwork? Enough with the secrets! Inquiring minds wanna know!
  11. And some new (to me) and good news about Sonic Boom, stolen from Alan Lankin's site: Lee Morgan - Sonic Boom (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct 7 — the 1967 session with David Newman, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter and Billy Higgins — will also include the 1969 session with Julian Priester, George Coleman, Harold Mabern, Walter Booker and Mikey Roker that was originally included on the Japanese release of The Procrastinator Can't wait for this one!
  12. uhhhh...how the hell are you guys finding these at Overstock.com? I'm getting no love there... PJ
  13. Oh! My! God! I just picked up a mint original copy of Brother Jack McDuff's Down Home Style at the Jazz Record Center in New York yesterday. This is some down and dirty, sleazzzy, greazzzy, tazzzty, slipppery, nazzzty FUZUNK! DAMN!!! I completely love this record. I've haven't even gotten through the first side yet, and I've already 'bout fallen out my chair three times! I can't stop my feet from tappin', my hands from clappin'--I'm dancing around the room! HELLYEAH! I can't believe it's taken me so long to pick this up. I think it's been discussed 'round these parts before, but Brothas and Sistas, do yourselves a FAVOR and go out and buy this YESTERDAY! I'm going to have to take a shower if I want to get this serious GREAZZZE off my body!
  14. Kenny, I took the liberty of running it through Babelfish into Japanese for you: 総に同様に Hope that helps!
  15. Not a lot to say that others haven't; but this record has a very cool groove which dips into the ilk of "Moon Rappin'" (McDuff) at times, if you're into that.
  16. I picked #10 because I'm an ENTJ!
  17. Bleecker Bob's 118 W 3rd St (between macdougal & avenue of the Americas) New York, NY 10012-1237 Phone: (212) 475-9677 If you go, make sure you get a slice (with fresh Mozz!!!) from Joe's Pizza at 233 Bleecker St! skeith, I think you're right--Mondo Kim's. Wacky place!!!
  18. "Walk like an E-GYP-tian..."
  19. Thanks, skeith--I think that's the place I'm thinking of. Anyone else? Thanks!
  20. I think we've played "fun with internet translation" before, but here's Babel Fish's take on the first paragraph: 2002 As best artists Madonna, Herbert Groenemeyer, Tom Jones, Cher, and Santana are distinguished. To the Top hits Westlife with "Uptown Girl" belong, the NO Angels with "universe Cried Out", Kelly Osbourne with "dad Don't Preach", Madonna with "American Pie". The music industry experiences for the first time after a long boom time a recession in sales. As main causes it makes the copying of CDs, come into mode, and an exchanging of music files in the InterNet responsible. In order to make the Kids clear that copying music damages letzendlich the artists, the industry starts the campaign "Copying Music is Killing Music". Und so weiter!!! Was it Miles Davis who used to translate Aric's screeds? Helfen uns, bitte!
  21. War is peace! Freedom is slavery! Ignorance is strength! - and - No is yes!
  22. My wife and I are heading to NYC on Saturday because she needs to shop for a dress! Accordingly, I intend to get some gitback by indulging in an afternoon of crate digging. Other than Jazz Record Center and Academy Records' jazz location, are there other places any of you can recommend? I recall a book store in/near the Village that used to have a fairly nice selection, and you can occasionally get lucky at Bleecker St. Bob's, but how about some hidden gems? Thanks in advance, everyone! Peter
  23. Definitely keep it as-is. That's the way we can allow the "teacher" to provide a disc with theme, if he/she wishes, or just whatever comes to mind, if that's the desire of the day.
  24. Chiming in WAYYYYY late in the game, having received my disc today. I'm four songs into it with a dinner engagement in my near future, so I will try to post my thoughts later tonight. So far, I LOVE it! Thanks Dan! Peter J
  25. Or Philadelphian shores, for that matter ...hopefully Tuesday!
