  1. They both do a lot of tapping, but I don't really see a connection beyond that.
  2. I can't believe this guy worked for the Legal Aid Society - they should be representing the Chungs in this case. I hope somebody is floating their legal bills. I read a couple months back that the bills had pushed them to the edge of bankruptcy and they were fearful of having to return to Korea. BTW, how would you like to have Pearson as your judge? The guy obviously needs a good shrink...
  3. Other people in this thread have apparently had different experiences, but I've always been able to retrieve items from them w/in 24 hours. As far as I can tell, all this means is that Concord determined that it is cheaper for them to outsource their tape storage than to maintain their own vault. But someone like Chuck would obviously have a more informed opinion.
  4. TW always sounded like more of a rock drummer to me than a jazz drummer. I think *he* might have influenced a couple more modern metal drummers (late 80s to late 90s), but my gut instinct is that in its time metal drummers/metal drummers to be were probably not hip to this particulat record. However, I can see where you are coming from. Edit: let me also add that I am not sure if any influence is more likely direct than osmotic.
  5. I'm giving this its first listen in a long time to make sure I wasn't unfair to the record. I really don't think it influenced prog or metal, and I am certain that it did not influence punk (it is *way* too noodley for that, plus I have never known a punk musician who had or referenced this album, and I have known quite a few of them).
  6. Of the many covers I have seen for Conversations and Iron Man by Eric Dophy, none seemed particularly appropriate.
  7. Honestly, that record sounds so bad to me it is hard to imagine that it influenced anything, but I suppose I am projecting my personal bias. I'm not saying that it is a bad record, btw (although I truly don't think of it as a very good record) - but it *sounds* so bad to me that it is a chore to listen to.
  8. A ridiculously large black russian. I kept having to add more kahlua and then more vodka to get the proportions right...
  9. I like that album, but the special addition sounds pretty missable to me as well. The singles were released as a cd ep several years ago, and I dare say that they aren't really very good. I also feel no need to have both the mono and stereo versions. I'm sure it will make a lot of people happy, though.
  10. Has that thread over at Hoffman been deleted? I can not access it.
  11. They put subliminal messages on those releases in lieu of advertising on the covers. Haven't you ever noticed how good a coca-cola sounds right after listening to the RVG edition of Conquistador?
  12. So you're thinking more along the lines of 1 apple by 2 apples rather than 3 apples by 6 apples?
  13. Hmmm.... snails are pretty tasty, and slugs seem to be little more than snails w/o shells...
  14. I agree with that. This was always my least played session from the Mosaic, too. It just doesn't hang together very well, at least not to my ears.
  15. Jesus. Hank Mobley is cool and all, but I wouldn't pay $45 for one of his records, to say nothing of 100 times that.
  16. Thanks - I'll wait till the next time this comes around.
  17. I've had Waves for a long time - it is really good. Haven't spun it in a while, though - I should dig it out tonight.
  18. I can get a slightly scratchy copy of this with a big promo sticker on the somewhat chewed up cover for $25. Should I pull the trigger or pass? I've never heard the album before, but I know it is supposed to be great. Thanks.
  19. When I was at Princeton I made it there at least once a day and often more! Great shop. Perhaps the only thing good about that town. Always sort of wondered where their stock was coming from. They compete with Academy as one of the biggest buyers of collections in the area. I used to go more often pre-Y2K. I would have stopped going in 1999. We probably rubbed shoulders there, as I was there all the time.
  20. When I was at Princeton I made it there at least once a day and often more! Great shop. Perhaps the only thing good about that town. Always sort of wondered where their stock was coming from.
  21. Edit: never mind - just realized I had this mixed up with something else.
  22. I saw it right when they opened one day, at 10am or 11am on a weekday. My heart leaped. I was a grad student at the time. Rent consumed about 75% of my stipend. I thought I would go back to my office and think about it. For the next 90 minutes, I could think of nothing else, so I decided to go back to the store and find out if my mastercard was still working. When I got there, the record was gone.
  23. Lombardi's has been my local delivery place for the last four years, but they haven't been very consistent since they expanded (they are at least six times as big as they used to be). They are still occassionally great, thought. Joe's is great but too long of a wait. Pizza Box... I don't know, dude...
