  1. Happy birthday!!! Sorry about the snafu with the prize, and glad it all worked out.
  2. Happy birthday!
  3. What is the famous French brand? I was staying right across the street from their store last time I was in Paris.
  4. Yep, and they used to be in a box together, until they lost the license. I was in the market for the box until I saw it going on ebay for $250.
  5. Yes, but on a different label without Criterion's transfers.
  6. FYI, all the Criterion Hitchcock's are OOP and fetching big bucks on ebay.
  7. I think I want the damn thing: http://www.apple.com/iphone/
  8. It's really more if a handheld computer, but I agree it is pretty expensive.
  9. $500 for an 4GB drive, $600 for an 8GB drive with a 2 yr contract. Pretty pricey gadget, but very, very cool looking, and not that bad price wise when compared to a small iPod, Blackberry and phone (I guess you can use your blackberry as a phone, but I don't like to).
  10. Gets into some of it: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/the-apple-iphone/
  11. I'm going to wait for the media to put together a good article rather than going through all the features myself - suffice to say Apple has far, far exceeded my expectations both in terms of useful features and just flat-out cool features (like the fact that it automatically displays in widescreen if you hold it horizontally and in full screen if you hold it vertically - not to mention the new interface... wow!!!)
  12. It is really a widescreen, internet capable ipod with integrated phone. Details to follow.
  13. For anyone still making up their mind, another model to consider: http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/01/09/c...s.ap/index.html
  14. I used to take the bus from Princeton to the city on the weekends - holy crap!!! It's especially bad when you pass through the town with the gigantic Budweiser factory (can't remember exactly where that is, but if I recall correctly it is fairly close to the water).
  15. Looks like Randy wins the prize; the radio just said it was from a chemical facility along the Jersey shore. As for my original theory, they are saying that a temperature inversion yesterday morning (hot air on top of cold instead of the other way around) trapped the odor close to the ground. Looks like it was wind driven after all. Read the thread again. This is what I wrote in the first place, except they think it came from Secaucus - not Bayway. Sorry, once the prize has been awarded it can not be retracted.

  17. I should say so!
  18. I've seen equally "fake" looking paintings in real life... in a lot of post-modern (or is it post-post-modern yet?) art there has been a trend towards artificiality. At least, that's what my observation of the Chelsea galleries would lead me to believe. In any case, this looks legit to me: http://www.katekretz.com/home.html Edit: speaking of Chelsea: http://www.chelseagalleria.com/artists_kretz.html
  19. Billie Holiday Verve Master Takes disc 4
  20. There was a great four cd set out on Blue Note, now out of print a handful of years, that reissued that material. Had great photos and text! Also there was a two cd Connoisseur that reissued a chunk as well. I've seen that one for big bucks online - I'd just as soon splurge for the Mosaic if that were the other option. Is this set equivalent, or is it more of a best of: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3997888 ? Thanks.
  21. What I don't get is how they can be so sure that it isn't dangerous if they can't even figure out what it is.
  22. Given the alleged criteria, how can there not be a single bridge to choose from?
  23. I'm going to backpedal a little. It is obviously coming up through the ground (otherwise the lobby effect is unexplainable), but once it comes up through the ground it can be blown around - however I would expect the effect to not be that strong because it should continue rising after it is freed from enclosed spaces.
  24. I disagree. I think it is pretty clearly coming up through the ground, becuase it is worst in the lobbies of large buildings. I don't think it is wind driven.
  25. The odor in the lobby of my office building will knock you on your butt, and my office itself is none to pleasant.
