  1. Is the material from the Baker/Mulligan studio Mosaic available in another format?
  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant-Man_(Scott_Lang)
  3. was pretty much my reaction to hearing Yanni for the first time, too.
  4. Thanks for reminding me. Now I'm going to have to go back to the shrink for another two years to get them back out of my mind.
  5. You know less about jazz in general and Chico in particular after you've read the booklet than before.
  6. Stefan, I can assure you that you are sadly mistaken. I am willing to send you six new cds of your choice in exchange for the Chico Hamilton set. You will thank me.
  7. The Chico Hamilton set is one of the worst and most disappointing things I've ever heard in my entire life. If you ever come across one, you should absolutely not waste your money. Contact me so that I can make sure it is disposed of properly.
  8. It's just my personal taste and thus hard to explain. It reminds me of something that would appeal to Beck or Beta Band fans and I am no fan of either. Doesn't mean I think less of people who are. Frankly, I was imagining the guy sitting down and trying to figure out how he could get the Pitchfork crowd as he wrote the songs. Not that I think he actually did that, but it was very easy for me to picture.
  9. And they rock, right? I've been struggling for a positive spin, and I think I've finally found one: thanks for saving me $12.99 plus tax.
  10. I have to say, the more I dig into the Capitol set, the more I enjoy it. I'm not a huge dixieland guy in general, but there are some really fun examples of the style in this set. And I've even found some non-Holiday vocal tracks that I dig. This one is looking like more and more of a keeper.
  11. I think a lot of it is tongue in cheek - I think he is trying to cultivate a bit of a Kurt Vonnegut vibe.
  12. Mr. Donche could use a new geography book.
  13. Well, now I've finally heard Gnarls Barkley.
  14. Salvator has been one of my favorites for a long, long time.
  15. Just answered my own question. According to the Complete Prestige box (which is a must own, IMO), The Great Concert is a re-issue of Live at the Five Spot Vols 1 and 2 and Memorial album. If you can get the notes for those albums on line somewhere, then you should be all set.
  16. Is this the same material as the Live at the Five Spot CDs?
  17. and now out of print. Anyone know the deal on this somewhat dodgy looking "reissue": http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00011V8D...4188961-0351346 I'm a little skeptical if for no other reason than that it claims to cover six more years yet has one less disc than the OOP Columbia set.
  18. Uhhh... I only read it for the ads... I mean... ummm... I just needed something to cover the floor while I painted...
  19. Since you ask, it was folded up in cardboard. Took a little courage to open it up.
  20. I know where Syd Barret lived... Edit: that's a semi-obscure 80s song reference.
  21. This is easily the best cd I've ever found in a newspaper vending machine.
  22. This is a DAMN good record.
  23. You know, this made me think of something. When I was a teen, I used to think "man, I wish I had been in Band X" (where Band X was whatever I was into at the time), until one day when I realized that Band X wouldn't have been very good had I been a member. Well, I think I've finally found a group I could have improved.
  24. Can't the Christian right run the country without running SNL?
  25. Dude, they must have known. right???
