  1. Jim, you really need to wake that baby up!
  2. I love the Erans disc, but the rest of her stuff is hit and miss, i have not heard this synth related stuff you mentioned. My take on the Erans disc is that it is brilliant avant garde music without being random or weird for the sake of being weird. It is a non-stop piano and drum attack, with in my opinion only one bad moment that is this drum 'solo' that i cannot quite figure out if it is produced live or with help from computers. The piano style emphasizes melody, the harmonies are pretty far out, but fit in well with everything else. The drums are fast and furious keeping a steady beat, though things do speed up and go down form time to time as the reviewer seemed to mention, but it seemed to suggest that the drummer cannot keep a beat, not the case. I just really want to say that there is a real obvious method to the madness found on the disc, not random weirdness found here, but you will find that on other discs hers. I wish i had webspace that i could upload the first minute of the first track just to give you guys an idea of what is happening on the album. I have not heard anything like it before. that may have come off as a little disjointed, but i am tired from work.
  3. Cool, must of been a different problem.
  4. I used a different variation on my name at my house and no workie, i'll try again later, it might have been i was just too tired to do it properly at 8 in the morning.
  5. heh, has anyone tried to refer themselves to get another 12 CDs for the price of one? didn't seem to work for me, or they have a major glitch in their system, but i am thinking they have a better system set up than i thought.
  6. just got it, listening to it now, great start with the first track
  7. Alright people, has anyone heard of this lady? http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=Byfouak1kgm3c She is a fantastic piano player who can go deep into the avant garde category. BUT she has this absolutely amazing album called Erans. AMG Review Now don't be confused, this is highly accessible music, not just seemingly random stuff like some people would consider avant garde music, very well thought out and calculated. Just a non-stop drum and piano attack.
  8. Yes, with monsters and all.
  9. This is exactly me, but swtich 'friend' with my father.
  10. Ok what's the deal here: I signed up through their 12 for one deal, got the first six for shipping and handling, paid for another full price, now i am supposed to get my final 4 cds for shipping, how do i redeem these? wait until the one i purchsed arrives? Also what does it mean to respond to your feature selections? Being a member, is this something i have to do?
  11. I never really understood the appeal of mosaic boxes, so i ordered a catalogue a couple days ago, i'll see what interests me.
  12. Hey, if i think this thread is a dumb idea, should i go and make a whole new thread about it?
  13. Hey Brass, when you say the kid is crazy, what exactly do you mean by that, just curious. I went to grade school with a kid who had ADD, he was always in a totally different world, he was not really ever aware of anything that was happening around him, but read could read like a maniac.
  14. I am in the 'everyone else' category, the jocks were too dumb for me, i always had a problem with the punks/hardcore people because they tried to act tuff, but they really all were momma's boys. The preppy group is, well, too preppy. Then there is a large group of simply normal people who lack interesting charactistics about themselves. I guess you could say i fit best in the drama crowd, but most of them stank really bad, so i stayed away from them too. I am too picky about somethings....
  15. yay! its back, there was a large void i had to fill in my internet browsing.
  16. I placed an order 8 days ago and have recieved nothing, how long is the wait usually? it says order was shipped on thier website on the 13th. heh, recieved it in the mail not even an hour after posting this!
  17. I've been sure to post thanks in each test thread i participate in. I can't really participate in the discussion/guessing because in all the tests i have done, i have recognized maybe 2 songs. I am a relative jazz newbie, and use these discs to introduce myself to new artists, because for the most part the discs do not feature the well known names that i have already heard. So again, a big thanks to all the compilers, the effort is extraordinary. I agree that in each signup thread the poster should post something along the lines of “this took a lot of effort to put together, thanks is appreciated when you have received and listened to the disc.
  18. This is a quality BFT, i think i have listened to the bonus disc more than the normal disc. Look forward to reading the answer, didn't recognize anything right away.
  19. Wow, great theads, lots of interesting ideas being thrown around. I am a 19 year old jazz fan, and for the most part i do not look at the music as 'old,' Though my older brother, 23, does. Whenever i am listening to any sort of jazz whether it is armstrong or marsalis, he'll always ask me why i am listening to this 'old timey' music. To me it is not old timey because i am just now discovering it myself, so it is quite new to me. But when i listen to say the Beatles or the Beach Boys, the idea of old is in my mind right away. I guess it is because i was not raised anywhere close to jazz, but around rock, so i have heard a lot of the older rock music and know of its history. But when it comes to jazz, i only really know when the major names recorded, but for the most part i never pay attention at the recording date and just take the music for the music without even considering what specific year it was recorded. Ok, i am done.
  20. Manteca, blasting that is the only way i listen to it.
  21. I wish this got better coverage/attention in the states, i love soccer, but no one hear seems to care about it.
  22. ummm....it starts with big bad and ends with voodoo daddy.
  23. Shipping & handling is about $3/cd, slightly less when you buy/order box sets. So your 12 for 1 deal works out to about $5/cd. If a current member (like me), sponsor's you, BMG will give me 5 CDs (I pay shipping costs) and you still get the 12 for 1 deal. So please contact me or someone who is a current member of BMG before you enroll. All we need is your email address, then we can have BMG forward you the enrollment info. pm sent to you.
