  1. I am in the process of ripping this box set to my hard drive so I can spin this music while browsing the web and I find myself having to change a majority of the leader's names. Who is screwing with them?? A Sal Salvador date suddenly becomes an Eddie Burt date. Ronnie Mathews morphs into Frank Foster. Roland Hanna's date gets changed to Frank Wess. Dick Katz's date gets changed to Jimmy Knepper. Junior Mance got a fat head - Davis "Fathead" Newman now leads his date. Even Arnett Cobb can't keep his whole date. Joe Newman gets two tunes.
  2. Merry Christmas to organissimo and its forum denizens.
  3. I keep expecting his estate to offer it via one of Amazon's "CD-R on demand" things since they still offer it via iTunes but so far, no luck. I have almost broken down and ordered the stuff from iTunes, but that would require me to sign up.
  4. Ha ha ha... yeah, I have been bugging Michael Cuscuna to get the Bee Hive catalog licensed for release on CD for decades. I am very glad that he finally listened.
  5. I've been trying to find an affordable copy of this for years: http://www.amazon.com/Jim-Hall-Live-Vol-2-4/dp/B00AU5I9KI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
  6. If the vinyl buying demographic is "middle aged men", they're likely under 50. Anyone older than that who actually had to buy all their music on vinyl is all too aware of its shortcomings. I dumped those things like hotcakes. Sure, I have a few hundred LPs these days but that is nothing compared to the thousands of CDs I have.
  7. I read quite a few of the 1 star reviews of this box and it sounds like it's not even worth the $34.99. :)
  8. You know Jim, I was playing Big John Patton's "Holiday Soul" and finding it kinda..... boring really. Then I played your holiday tunes and found myself tapping my foot and enjoying the heck out of it. And I'll reiterate that this music is a prefect amount of music for one LP.
  9. I have always thought the jewel case as an elegantly designed protective box for CDs if only for the fact that if one breaks, it's a matter of seconds to replace it with a new one. Try that with a digipak or cardboard LP sleeve. Don't waste your time, it can't be done. I love the jewel case.
  10. Ahh, here are the other tunes! Jim - looking at the timings of these 7songs, you've got just enough for an LP.
  11. The 3 downloads listed in the first post by Jim still work if you haven't heard these funky takes on Christmas songs by organissimo. I have 7 tunes so I don't where the others are. Merry Christmas.
  12. Weird... I sent a message yesterday but even though my cell showed that message as posted, it must not have made it out of my handheld device onto the Organissimo server. Another message sent,
  13. Jason got on first so they're his. I've been out Christmas shopping so sorry for the delay in posting this.
  14. I am selling John Carter's 5 CDs that he used to document the history of the African American forced migration. $35 shipped to a US address. International shipping is extra. Paypal preferred. The titles are as follows: Dauwhe (Black Saint). Older pressing with no UPC. Made in France. Castles Of Ghana (Gramavision). Hole punch in UPC and sticker residue on booklet. A couple of very faint scratches on disc that do not affect play. Dance Of The Love Ghosts (Gramavision). Saw cut on spine (case replaced). Fields (Gramavision). Shadows On A Wall (Gramavision). Visible scratch on disc that does not affect play.
  15. To put it simply, no. But is there a reason why would you'd want to?
  16. If your router has sufficient WiFi protection turned on, you should be OK with leaving it on overnight. Rebooting a router everyday carries its own problems as each time it boots, it has to acquire a new DNS address, which can sometimes cause networking problems. This might be part of your current problem. If I were you, I would make sure that WiFi protection is turned on and leave the router on all the time. As for getting a tablet... if you want to use your wife's old laptop as a simple web browser, just download and install Ubuntu (Linux) on it. It comes with everything you need to get on line and it cannot get viruses. You'll be amazed at how fast it will run too. Even better, don't shut it down when you're done, just close the lid (suspend). When you open the cover and it comes back alive, you'll be back on line in about 20 seconds. I have several laptops running Ubuntu and I love it.
  17. If you think it's the wireless router, buy an ethernet cable and hardwire your PC to the router to see if that helps. You should be able to get one pretty cheap from Monoprice. If it's your internet provider throttling you back, try doing the updates at off hours. Many providers throttle you back during peak usage times so doing your updates during their slow period may help avoid this problem. BTW, I thought that a lawsuit was settled recently that made it "illegal" to have your internet connection throttled?
  18. Pepper Adams - Live At Fat Tuesdays (Uptown Records). Recording made by Malcolm Addey Recorders with Jim Anderson at the controls. Two masters at work created a well recorded live date.
  19. It looks like Sonny is still touring. 20. Larry Young - Unity (Blue Note/Music Matters). New 33 rpm version. Sounds fine to my ears but not one of my favorite listening sessions. I guess I'm more a funky organ guy.
  21. For some reason, I was sure this story was going to say, "When he returned, he found 3 more basses in his car".
  22. I see where one just sold for $150 on eBay. It used to sell for ~$350. Is that $150 what you are considering unreasonable or the $350 it used to sell for?
  23. I've been waiting for Weeds to make his way to Boston for several years now. Last year, he toured, but didn't get to the East Coast. I'll just have to enjoy his playing on CD.
  24. I have a signed copy of this hanging on my office wall:
