  1. Gone Girl The Girl Who played with Fire June Carter Cash
  2. I had read somewhere about a hitter reaching out to get a hit off a too close to the plate pitch on an intentional walk, but until yesterday I'd never seen it. (It wasn't a hit, but close enough - one runner scores and another moves up.)
  3. "Aged and Mellow Mellow Blues" (with Ben Webster) "Set Me Free"
  4. Henry Threadgill: Song out of My Trees (Black Saint) Henry Threadgill's music is ever changing. From his recordings with Air to his latest, Old Locks and Irregular Verbs, his music has never remained static. Someone once said, "He not busy being born is busy dying." Henry Threadgill has remained very much alive over the years. Song Out of My Trees is one of my favorite Henry Threadgill recordings. I find it fascinating on many levels: the music itself is wonderful; the instrumentation is more varied than any that I could imagine - though obviously not more varied than Henry Threadgill could imagine; also, I believe that this was one of the first times on record that Mr. Threadgill didn't play on all of the tracks. His role is composer/facilitator on two, but there's no falloff with the music on them. I'd just like to list the instrumentation on the five tracks: "Gateway" - alto sax, trumpet, guitar, acoustic bass guitar, drums (looks like a standard jazz group, but it doesn't sound like one); "Over the River Club" - three guitars, bass guitar, piano; "Grief" - alto sax, accordion, harpsichord, two cellos, voice; "Crea" - hunting horns, three guitars, bass guitar, "Song Out of My Trees" - alto sax, guitar, organ drums (what's his take on a sax plus organ trio? - give a listen and decide.) I don't know whether this music is jazz. I just think of it as Henry Threadgill music. I hope that those who have the record will comment on it (general thoughts, favorite cuts, favorite moments), and that some who don't have it might be moved to pick it up. There are reasonably priced copies here: https://www.amazon.com/Song-Out-Trees-Henry-Threadgill/dp/B0000010ZN/ref=sr_1_18?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1473597056&sr=1-18&keywords=henry+threadgill and elsewhere. Enjoy the music.

  6. The fact that he died at age 40 in 1943 made me think that he might have died as a soldier in WW 2. Looked him up and he actually died from meningitis.
  7. I guess I've said this before on this thread - I'm too lazy to look through all of the posts to check - but I have the studio LP and look forward to getting an expanded CD reissue, whenever that happens.
  8. Jimmy T 99 Nelson: Watch That Action (Ace)
  9. Well, they do bill it as The Alternative Lester.
  10. Charlie Palmieri: A Giant Step (Tropical Budda)
  11. That's where I was at. I had most of what was on the Mosaic before it came out and couldn't see my way to going for the box.
  12. Okay. I guess my opinion is merely an opinion and your opinion is fact. I'm cool with that.
  13. Thanks for posting the video link and to papsrus for the links to the recordings - wonderfully enchanting music.
  14. That's an opinion. Most everyone has one. Nothing wrong with that. Rudy had his, you have yours, I have mine. Nothing wrong with that, even if we may disagree.
  15. Shouldn't be a problem to set it aside for a night - especially when it benefits the Red Sox.
  16. At least it's still available for those who want to hear the music. No complaints about that, whatever the reason for its longevity.

  18. He didn't seem to use his change all that much. Looked like mostly fastballs and sliders with an occasional change up. His fastball got up to 99 mph. I hope that he doesn't end up with arm problems. That's been happening a lot with young pitchers trying to throw harder and harder. It used to be unusual for a pitcher to throw 95 mph. Now it's commonplace and there are more arm injuries.
  19. Billy Bang - Dennis Charles (as he was known at that time): Bangception (hat Musics) and The Jazz Doctors: Intensive Care (Cadillac)
  20. Luis Severino was 0 - 8 with an ERA of about 8.5 as a starter. In 6 relief appearances, he's faced 50 hitters and has given up only 2 hits. Batters are hitting .040 against him, and his ERA is .000. As one of the announcers said, he was Clark Kent as a starter and has been Superman as a reliever.

  22. Any book with a Sempé drawing on the cover can't be all bad.
  23. Sinatra Previn Woody
  24. All the best to Mr. Rollins.
  25. I still wish that Cashman hadn't traded Miller. Betances as set up and Miller as closer would have made a big difference down the stretch. But what do I know? Cashman is the "genius".
