  7. I get your point, Joel. Lotsa folks with iPods, phones, etc. walking around like zombies oblivious to everything and everyone around them. Annoys me too. And there are always going to be folks here who will argue about anything. Some of them must not have much else to do.

  9. I heard a Sidney Bechet Blue Note when I was in college, and from the first note he played I knew that this was a musician I'd be listening to for the rest of my life.
  10. I remember seeing Thurman Munson when he came up to play for the Yankees in late 1969, and having the feeling from the way he carried himself that he was going to be a very good major leaguer. I have much the same feeling about Gary Sanchez. Teams will no doubt catch on to him and he won't continue on the same tear that he's been on, but he should be a very good hitter and he'll only get better as a receiver (and he's already better than most major league catchers that I see). He gives the impression of someone who's been in the bigs for a few years, and not for less than 20 games.

  17. Possibly part of the problem is that some people sometimes gave general positive or negative opinions with no reasons behind their opinions. An opinion - may not be worth much unless there are reasons to back it up. Looking back through the previous album of the week choices, I was surprised - (1) that it went on for such a long time - four years - and (2) - that I had forgotten there were so many interesting choices. I didn't participate nearly as often as I should have, but I intend to make amends for that if Album of the Week is resuscitated. I can't say that I will have something to add for every album - not everything is to my taste - but if an album is one I'm familiar with and that interests me, I'll try to be there. Let's roll.
