  2. I believe that I posted this before but, when I worked for the USPS, it was well known that Chicago had the worst mail service of any city in the country. I imagine that was both to and from.
  3. Have to admit that I never looked at the Forum - only the thread title.
  4. Musically, it does have the sound of a soul ballad, and the piano adds to that sound. There was more musical interaction between soul and country than some people might have wanted to admit back then. Thanks for posting this, Jim. It was new to me too. Very good song and a great performance. Checked it out and the song was written by Red Lane, a well known country songwriter who wrote songs for Merle Haggard, among others, and Larry Henley, who was the lead singer for the Newbeats ("Bread and Butter") and later became a successful songwriter. I learn something new every day - or at least I try.

  6. I recall seeing Lee Andrews on American Bandstand when I was 12 years old and "Teardrops" was a current hit. Dick Clark interviewed him and he recounted how he was once in an auto accident on the night of a gig and took 30 stitches in his leg. He said that he got the stitches, went to the gig and performed. At the time I thought, why would he do that? Why not go home and recuperate? I had no idea at that age of how the music business worked - especially for black artists.

  9. http://tommybrownblues.com/ Probably best known for his recordings with the Griffin Brothers - "Weepin' and Cryin'" was a no. 1 r&b hit. My favorite Tommy Brown recording is "Southern Women", recorded with Big Walter Horton for United - reissued by Delmark. http://www.amazon.com/Harmonica-Blues-Kings-Walter-Horton/dp/B00004YN9H/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1458478293&sr=1-1&keywords=big+walter+horton+harmonica+blues+kings
  10. That's what I'm thinking. Doesn't mean I won't break down and get it, but that's what I'm thinking now.

  15. Just received an email that Lee Andrews has passed. He was my favorite vocal group lead singer. http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2016/03/passings-lee-andrews-1936-2016.html?utm_source=VVN+Music+E-Mail+Subscribers

  18. I have Japanese stereo LPs of most of the music - probably everything except alternate takes - so I don't feel a need to pick this up. I don't know if the mono LPs are superior - Atlantic's sound wasn't all that great in general, to my ears - but to call it a "bullshit release" seems curmudgeonly.
