  1. Happy Birthday, Mike!
  2. If I read that Jimmy Giuffre's widow is receiving royalties, and if I read that the sound is good, I might go for this. Otherwise, I'll let it go. Guess I'm a spoil sport.
  3. Listened to this again today and Son House still hit me the hardest. However, Skip James' performances are wonderful and I can understand if they made the biggest impression on you.
  4. Living Legends (Verve Folkways)
  5. Stanley Livingston Jonathan Livingston Seagull
  6. The Great Imposter The Invisible Man The Man Who Wasn't There
  7. Bunk Monk Friar Tuck
  8. T.J. Hooker B.J. Hunnicutt J.J. Cale
  9. According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verve_Forecast_Records, there was an initial connection between Verve and Folkways. A number of Folkways connected artists recorded for Verve Folkways. The label name changed to Verve Forecast when things got more commercial. It would be interesting to know who controls the rights to the Living Legends album.
  10. Hope it's a great birthday!
  11. Happy Birthday and Good Listening, Hans!!
  12. Or perhaps we could at least stop discussing it for a while.
  13. Standard Oil Earl Monroe Dizzy Gillespie
  14. Allen Ludden Joe Pass Mr. and Mrs. Bridge
  15. I have that record and remember Son House's performance as having a lot of power in it. I'll have to listen again. Thanks for the reminder.
  16. To interrupt - One of Illinois Senator Charles Percy's daughters was murdered in 1966, Richard Speck murdered eight nurses in Chicago around the same time.
  17. Happy Birthday!
  18. I've had the LPs for years. Some time ago, I was almost ready to get rid of them. Jeff told me to play them loud and it made a difference in my listening. I'll have to listen again to the LPs, but I won't be going for the CD version.
  19. Jon Faddis: "Youngblood" (Pablo)
  20. Inez Andrews: Letter to Jesus (Songbird) Was inspired to listen to this by Jim's post in The Mighty Hannibal thread. A truly magnificent voice "Toiling" from this album is my favorite Inez Andrewsrecording.
  21. Little Bo Peep Bo Jackson Frankie Jaxson
  22. Hope you pick up at least some of the music and find yourself enjoying it.
  23. The Five Spot Dollar Bill Bradley Penny Marshall
  24. Scanned from the inner sleeve - not complete (I remember a Toch Piano Concerto). You should read Steuermann's wiki bio and try to find his Schoenberg lp. Will look at that, thanks. What do we get with the Vernon Duke stuff? FWIW, Stravinsky and Duke (Vladimir Dukelsky in his Russian days; at one point he was a Diaghilev protege) were not on good terms to say the least. Duke on Stravinsky: "Stravinsky is basically insecure, having traveled for many years with the slimmest musical baggage on the grandest scale but with the falsest possible pretences." Can't cite them right now, but I believe that Stravinsky had similar things to say about Duke. Does Concord own the rights to this material now? I guess it doesn't matter much. Concord will never reissue it and I doubt that any small outfit will ever lease it.
