  3. Nice one, John. Thanks for the reminder to take it off the shelf and listen. It's been too long.

  5. Looks like they even skinnified Cannon on that cover.
  6. I read this thread title and I was hoping it was gone for good.
  7. A day late, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  8. You had to remind me.
  9. I first heard Don Byron on a couple of recordings by the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Those introduced me to klezmer and led me to early recordings of the real stuff - though the K.C.B. might have felt they were the real thing too. Haven't had any real interest in Mr. Byron's recordings since then.
  10. Well, the quartet was present on those west coast sessions. But, as you imply, the additions made it a whole nuther thing.
  11. I remember getting teased a bit in Jr. High about her record "Tall Paul".
  12. This would be because this session (and this session alone) wasn't recorded at Van Gelders but at RCA in Manhattan. This goes for east coast studio sessions. He did record for Impulse in studios on the west coast. Nitpicking, I know.

Wondering if you're the fellow who wrote for Cadence. If you are, or if you're not, welcome.

  17. I hear what you're saying, Lon. I just feel that Sonny Clark falls into a somewhat different category than Wynton Kelly or Kenny Drew. The latter two recorded strictly as sidemen (iirc), while Sonny recorded fairly extensively both as a leader and as a sideman. Just a difference of opinion - not a big deal to me.
  18. Sonny Clark?
  19. Luckily, even though Les Blank has left us, his films remain.
