I believe that when Addison Farmer's death was reported in Down Beat that the cause of death was given as a reaction to aspirin and another medication. That was 48 years ago and I may be wrong about that.
I couldn't find the Down Beat obituary online. Perhaps Larry or one of the Chicagoans has access to Down Beat's files and can confirm this or not.
He's on Archie Shepp's For Losers album. I used to have that one but don't anymore. Can't remember if C. Sharpe solos on it. I'm sure someone else can provide that information.
Not his last role, but the last film I saw him in, was the "Quartier Latin" segment of Paris, je t'aime with Gena Rowlands. They played a married couple who were divorcing. I remember it as being very moving.
Hope "mama" is ok.
Mama Said - The Shirelles
Mama You've Been on My Mind - Bob Dylan
Mama Tried - Merle Haggard
Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean - Ruth Brown
Tell Mama - Etta James

Saw/heard Doug and Duke in Copenhagen in 1980.
Must be a good memory. Listening to his first recording, he played very well at 21 years of age. I haven't kept up with his recent playing. Perhaps I should do so.
I've been looking over his record catalog and he's had a fair number of recordings come out -new releases and reissues - over the past decade - a good thing. Though he's still got a long way to go til he hits Braxton territory.
